Hi hammadhanif,

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations.

My name is Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO.

Strong GPA + Good GMAT score + CFA level 1 cleared + Good extracurricular activities- Nice! Your school list is quite balanced. While your professional experience is impressive, the job shifts are a bit frequent.

Your career goals look fine but you need to connect the dots and showcase your passion for investment banking for compelling essays (and we can help you that 😊). If you send me your CV on priyankak@ARINGO.com , I would love to connect you with our CEO who will be happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps.
All the best!

Nice job picking schools with Johnson and Darden. If you wanted to go extra safe, you can try Simon (likely be a better offer with more $$ even if you get into Johnson and Darden). Otherwise good luck!

Your GMAT score of 710 is a bit below the average for some of the top MBA programs you've listed, such as Harvard and Booth, where the average GMAT scores tend to be higher. However, it's still within a competitive range for admission to these schools. Admissions decisions are based on a holistic evaluation of your application, and your GMAT score is just one component of it.

Here are some specific tips for improving your chances of admission to each of the schools you have listed:

Booth: Booth is known for its rigorous academic program and its focus on quantitative skills. To improve your chances of admission to Booth, you should highlight your quantitative skills in your application materials. You can do this by emphasizing your relevant work experience, coursework, and extracurricular activities.

Fuqua: Fuqua is known for its strong sense of community and its focus on teamwork. To improve your chances of admission to Fuqua, you should highlight your teamwork skills in your application materials. You can do this by emphasizing your relevant work experience, coursework, and extracurricular activities.

Harvard: Harvard is one of the most competitive business schools in the world. To improve your chances of admission to Harvard, you will need to have a very strong application in all areas. Your essays, letters of recommendation, and interview will need to be exceptional.

Tuck: Tuck is known for its focus on leadership and its strong alumni network. To improve your chances of admission to Tuck, you should highlight your leadership skills in your application materials. You can do this by emphasizing your relevant work experience, coursework, and extracurricular activities.

Stern: Stern is known for its focus on finance and its strong connections to the New York City business community. To improve your chances of admission to Stern, you should highlight your relevant work experience and coursework in your application materials. You should also explain why you are interested in attending Stern and how it will help you achieve your post-MBA goals.

Ultimately, the best approach is to focus on the aspects of your application that you can control. Write compelling essays, prepare well for interviews, and ensure that your application portrays a cohesive and compelling story of your career goals and how each MBA program is a fit for you. While the GMAT is important, it is just one part of a broader evaluation, and your application should highlight all your strengths and potential contributions to the program.

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

I am not going to say your chance is zero, but average for SE Asia applicants hovers at 750. Even Ross and the outer edge of Top 10 have fairly high scores. You can check Decision tracker and filter by Scores for India applicants. For example, here are Fuqua Admits: https://gmatclub.com/forum/decision-tra ... ake_year=0

P.S. If you see multiple scores, this means people took GMAT Multiple times and you can assume the higher one was used.

I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate, with 8.21/10 CGPA.

Have international team competition experience, ranked 2nd worldwide at the SAE Aerodesign East 2020.

Post engineering, I have 2 years of experience in Strategy Consulting, having being placed through college. One of the best performers in the team, 2 promotions in as many years. Foreign client seminar and workshop exposure (Multiple visits to clients office in Singapore).

I have a 690 on my GMAT (V37 Q47 IR2 AWA5).

I am looking for MSBA and MBA (I know my experience is a red flag) in the USA, preferrably East.

Hi! Welcome!
Great profile! And interesting combo of schools. HBS and Olin! 👀

Haas is not big into consulting (though they do place folks) - Fuqua or Darden may a better fit though of course you may have reasons to apply to Berkeley. It never hurts if you have the time and you have an app fee waiver.

If you are looking at consulting and scholarship, UNC can be a good middle ground as well as Tepper.

PS. Social and non profit tend to be VERY popular and competitive. Everyone wants these spots and social places really lack $$ to hire a lot of consultants so the spots are limited. Just setting your expectations.

Thank you so much for this feedback

I would also like mention that my gpa is on a 5.0 scale. However since undergrad I have commenced my ACCA certification and I’m two papers from certification.

Given this, Do you think I have a shot at Stanford GBS and Wharton. If yes, how do I put my best application forth. If no, what can I get done by next year to give me a chance within the pool

The HSW are super competitive. Nobody can give a good chance prediction there (with a few exceptions of candidates)

Seeing that you did not get an interview invite at HBS, I think by default it would mean you need to assume they did not like you enough vs your peers. GPA may be one consideration. Even on a 4.0 scale it is low compared to 3.5-3.6 average so you need a 333+ GRE to offset any concerns about your academic success.

PS. It is harder to apply as a startup person and that’s likely one of the considerations since anyone can say they did a startup and make a few things up while working for BCG or even McDonalds is easier to evaluate.

PS. I am just guessing here a bit. Not trying to make you paranoid, but trying to probe for weaknesses.

Hello @dddi, Ola here, also from NG. Amazing profile overall. But I think you might need to take the HBS Core to strengthen your base. The GPA is sort of low. Also not sure what your college major was. If it wasn't Quant heavy and you had a 3.19/5, then you need to proof to Adcoms that you'd cope. If your college major was Quant focused, you still need the HBS Core + higher GRE to be competitive for your selected schools. Otherwise, you could consider some T25 - T50s that would yield similar results.

To add a bit more of rumor-grade feedback. In the last year we saw many GMAT scores get $$ scholarships and few of the GRE applicants. Not sure if that’s because GRE were low or because schools did not have as much appetite to fund GRE applicants - we will see better results in 2 months but if you are counting on scholarships, may want to consider a GMAT attempt if it is feasible. Again, this is highly speculative and not corroborated by hard data per se.

Hi. Great profile and a great GRE score!

One way to improve your profile is always to show your readiness for the next step in the career. Showing that you have just a handful of steps from your current career to the goal you have set after MBA is super helpful so you would be evaluated as a "low risk of failure". So if you can show that your current job/rule already includes some Tech PM elements that's helpful to your cause.

Good communication and articulation and doing a strong interview will be important for someone looking to recruit into consulting to show that are polished and client-ready so to speak. A poor interview will definitely put a lid on your chances. So if speaking skills and presentation are not your key traits, you better start working on those.

Don't focus too much on the extra curriculars unless they have some achievements to back them up. Your key evaluations will come from your work experience and academics (scores included) and then extra things are just to qualify how distracted you were from work type of thing. That may be helpful for the Fuqua 25 things but other than that, it is an extra.

Good luck!

Fantastic profile and great to have another member from Vietnam.

If you’re looking at consulting and MBB, there’s not really a huge priority to attend one of the top three business schools. Going to Fuqua or Darden or Tuck will probably be even more productive since those schools have such a laser focus on consulting. More over, good chance you can get a decent discount on your tuition. so I would recommend expanding your list of schools to include some other options.

Of course if you get into Harvard, you should go there but a lot of schools have very strong placements into consulting and better stats than Harvard or Stanford. Just saying 😇

If you’re looking for consulting, you want to focus on programs that have been consistently placing into consulting for years. This creates a path and the very vital connection where people from five years ago and now in senior positions within consulting companies, there are people from a few years ago who are in the starting positions and there are interns who are in their second year of business school who will help you prepare for case interviews and who will Challenge you. This ecosystem allows for this cycle of new people coming in and old people helping them to come in. Usually you’re looking at a top 15 rank.

At the same time, consulting recruiting is very much about the person and not the school when it comes to the selection process however, as mentioned above having a school with a consulting pathway will prepare you so much better to the interview and that will help you to perform better individually.

Rank wise, I would recommend focusing on the top 15 and avoiding West Coast schools as they tend to perform with on campus recruiting. in terms of the other options outside of top 15, you can consider UNC which has larger class and consulting aspirations along with MBB recruiting paths. In general you want to stick to larger programs and higher ranked ones that will give you the best chance of getting into consulting.

Hello @ptkvaibhav,

Barring Tepper and Scheller, a 710 could be perceived on the lower side by the other schools you have applied to. Of course, it goes without saying that GMAT is only one component of the application, albeit an important one; we do hope you have been able to show a spike in the other aspects of your profile.

Thanks.

Hello @tx444,

I hope you are doing good. Since you have a strong, focused background in real estate, you should highlight your industry experience and how it aligns with your post-MBA goals in your applications. Each school has its unique strengths and priorities, so make sure to emphasize how your background and goals align with their programs. Admissions decisions will also consider factors like your academic qualifications, professional experience, essays, recommendations, and interviews.

Applying to a variety of schools in Round 2 increases your chances of admission. Be sure to prepare strong, tailored applications for each school and put effort into your essays and interviews to make a compelling case for your candidacy. Good luck with your applications!

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

Some solid consulting and banking names and good academics would position you quite well. Profile is solid, maybe think about some solid US MBA options as well as the programs there feed quite well into the global consulting pipeline.

Reach out to us at info@thembaedge.com to have a more detailed discussion. All the best for your IESE interview.

Which schools would you suggest in the US?

I always recommend US schools over European ones just because of the job opportunities and salaries. Ignoring everything else…

The downside of the US market is how busy you will be and working long hours during your first three years. After you establish yourself, you can pull back but in Europe, they have pretty strict rules and laws that will allow you to have a strong delineation between Work and personal time but at about a 50% discount to your salary … choose your poison 😂

Lots of options for consulting in the US. All of the top 20 schools do quite well with consulting with the Car out of the West Coast schools. The biggest ones would be Tuck, Fuqua, Darden and Tepper for the mid tier and pretty much all the Top10/M7’s.

Hello
I hope you are doing well. Your profile looks good on the surface.

Your profile for MBA admissions at top European business schools (LBS, IESE, HEC Paris, INSEAD) is as follows:

London Business School (LBS):
Application status: Applied in Round 1, Denied

While LBS is a highly competitive school, your academic and professional background is strong. The denial may have been due to a variety of factors, including competition, the strength of your application, or specific program fit.

IESE Business School:
Application status: Applied in Round 1, Interviewed
Being interviewed is a positive sign, as it means you passed the initial screening. Your consulting and managerial experience, coupled with your clear post-MBA career goals, likely contributed to your interview invitation. Prepare well for the interview to increase your chances of admission.

HEC Paris:
Application status: Applied in Round 3 for the September intake
Applying in Round 3 may be more competitive, but your strong academic record and professional experience could make your application competitive. However, late rounds tend to be more selective, so be prepared for a highly competitive pool.

INSEAD:
Application status: August Intake
INSEAD is known for its diversity, and your international experience and career goals align well with their program. It's a competitive school, and your application will be evaluated based on various factors. Ensure that your essays and recommendations are compelling.

Overall, your profile is strong with a high GPA, substantial consulting experience, and a clear post-MBA goal. It's encouraging that you've received an interview invitation from IESE. Continue to put your best foot forward in the interview process, and consider applying to other programs or reapplying to LBS if it aligns with your goals. Each school has its unique criteria and priorities, so admissions outcomes can vary. Good luck with your applications!

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

I am an Indian male mechanical engineer. Worked for 8+ years in Govt PSU in retail operations across all sectors ( Logistics/Maintenance/HSSE). Top 5 of my class in undergrad. Took GATE(2015) and got AIR - 174. Took GMAT in 2023 and got 750(V42/Q49). Done lots of extra curriculars in corporate like debates and quiz. Participated in many community work and teaching classes in nearby villages. What are my chances in M7?

Will need additional details to evaluate your fit. Just applying solely to Stanford GBS can be risky, best to apply to a portfolio of schools that will be a good fit for your profile and can do justice to your career aspirations.

Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) is one of the most competitive MBA programs in the world, and they consider various factors when evaluating applicants. Being an Indian male, you belong to a competitive applicant pool. Diversity in the student body is essential, so your background may add to the overall class diversity. Your GMAT or GRE scores will be crucial. Stanford GSB typically has a high GMAT/GRE score average. To be competitive, you should aim for a score in the upper percentiles.

A GPA of 3.44 is slightly below the average GPA for admitted students at Stanford GSB. However, it's important to note that GPA is just one part of the application, and Stanford places significant emphasis on the holistic assessment.

Your pre-MBA industry in retail and the post-MBA goal of switching to consulting may be viewed positively, as it indicates a clear career transition and the potential to bring a unique perspective to the class. Additionally, having eight years of work experience can be an advantage, as Stanford values applicants with substantial experience.

Strong letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your abilities and potential are essential. Your essays and interview performance play a significant role in the admissions process. Stanford is interested in understanding your personal and professional journey, as well as your motivations and contributions to the MBA program.

Any leadership roles or significant extracurricular involvement can boost your application.

Highlight how your background and experiences contribute to the diversity and inclusivity of the Stanford GSB community.

Clearly articulate your career goals, how an MBA from Stanford GSB will help you achieve them, and how you intend to contribute to the Stanford community. Seek guidance from current students or alumni of the program. They can provide valuable insights and potentially help you with the application process.

Overall, while your GPA is slightly below the average, other aspects of your application such as work experience, goals, and your unique background can compensate for this. To strengthen your application, focus on achieving a competitive GMAT/GRE score, crafting compelling essays, and ensuring that your letters of recommendation and interview performance showcase your potential and fit for the program. Additionally, highlighting your contributions to diversity and inclusion can also make a positive impact on your application. Stanford GSB values diversity, leadership, and innovation, so make sure your application reflects these qualities. Good luck!

After working in consulting for two years, I seek to augment my skills. Allow me to introduce myself and outline my short-term objectives. I am an adept Systems Administrator and Salesforce professional with extensive experience managing Salesforce applications and customer solutions. My expertise lies in streamlining workflows, optimizing system utilization, and cultivating customer loyalty. I have a proven track record of delivering projects excellently, analyzing business needs, and devising strategies. My background includes marketing analysis and strategy development.

My short-term goals following my MBA (1-3 years) are:

1. Senior Salesforce Consultant/Architect Role: I intend to utilize the MBA curriculum to transition into a more strategic position within the Salesforce ecosystem. I will focus on helping businesses maximize their Salesforce investments through improved strategies and system architectures.

2. Expand Global Outreach: I plan to collaborate with international clients or work groups to broaden global reach and deepen comprehension of diverse markets. This will leverage the international network that I gained through the MBA program.

3. Strategic Implementation: By combining my Salesforce technical skills with business acumen, I aim to assist companies in aligning their Salesforce implementations with overall business strategies.

Hi. I don't particularly recommend west-coast schools for traditional consulting. However, since you are approaching it as Tech consulting, then I think it makes sense, though I would recommend doing some research about it. I love that you have very specific strengths that you are leveraging and you have specific goals - keep it that way - this is really good to be specific. However, I am not sure if traditional consulting companies are hiring people with such specific skills. They like general folks from MBA and then they hire SME's from the industry with 10's of years of experience. So, I would chat with current students from these schools (e.g. Foster, Anderson, etc) and see what they think about your recruiting strategy - are there on campus recruiting opportunities for these things. You can also get connected with some of the tech and consulting clubs and see if they connect you with folks from your field or perhaps just get with someone from your country.

P.S. Great job on the GMAT! Add Tepper to your list and maybe McCombs - Austin has had quite a few tech companies move there, though again, not sure if that translates into Salesforce expertise. I am actually wondering if a Masters may be a better fit than an MBA... they are cheaper and shorter and easier to get into but they tend to be less about leadership and management and more about doing the work.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate your perspective on West Coast schools, traditional consulting vs. tech consulting, and the advice to be specific about my strengths and goals. Your insight into the hiring preferences of traditional consulting firms provides a helpful framework for me to reflect upon. I will explore Tepper and McCombs options about tech company migrations and consider a Master's program over an MBA. Lastly, thank you for the GMAT commendation! Your advice has given me much to ponder, and I'm grateful for your thoughtful insights.

Profile review please! For Wharton, Stanford and Columbia R2

GRE: 320 160q 160v (do I need to retake / aim for 324?)

GPA: International equivalent to 4.0 for undergrad (business + finance). MS in innovation management (3.7) (Russell Group university)

ECs: Mentoring, college society VPs, student experience committees / college advisory boards, study abroad. All telling a cohesive story about education

International: Female. Black. Citizenship of Caribbean country and European country (both very underrepresented)

Experience: 2 years PMM at FAANG, 3 years of previous experience (5 total). Never promoted but run a side hustle consulting big name clients. Increased salary signficantly (300%) when changing companies. Last job was at a startup working closely with the CEO and I built out a new client offer. Concerned about the lack of promotion. Does it matter? I have a difficult (and bad) manager so I don't think I'll get promo before app. reviews in Jan / Feb. Trying to move teams for promo but it's not guaranteed.

Goals: I want to go to a ed-tech startup doing StratOps after....and then become a cofounder. This works as my background so far, even at FAANG is in mostly education (comms) / social justice / working with non-profit clients etc.

Hi. 320 is on the lower side... with top MBA programs having a higher GRE score each year... GSB average is 328 https://gmatclub.com/forum/calling-all- ... 12124.html based on class of 2025 and likely to go up. There is obviously a point of what can improve your application the most. If you think the GRE is a lost cause and you won't be able to move the needle, then time would be better used elsewhere but right now that would be the biggest numerical risk.

In terms of promotions, I think as a PMM at FAANG, it is pretty understandable that things have been somewhat dry the past 12 months with layoffs and other concerns in Tech, so it would not be a big concern in my opinion; however, you can address in an optional essay and just say that your team is really hard with promotions type of thing.

I think a strong profile overall and there is a chance the score won't really play a big role in the decision but it is a risk that can play in several ways. 324 would be better and likely good enough taking your under-represented status.

I've spent ~6 years in the ed-tech space as a product and program manager.

Achievements-
1. Two promotions
2. Implemented a system to measure creator efficiency in a content production pipeline, navigating numerous technical and political challenges along the way.
3. Built an adaptive assessment platform(similar to the GMAT) with over 700 questions and scaled the assessment from 10k users to 100k users. It's the first adaptive assessment of critical thinking skills for the K-12 segment.

Education- Mechanical Engineering, Shiv Nadar University

Extra Curricular-
1. Built an ATV in the University for a National Competition
2. Led the Adventure Club during my undergrad- increased participation in adventure club activities
3. Completed my Basic and Advanced Mountaineering Certifications
4. Mentor at the Student Counselling Club at the university
5. Member of the university volunteer group- taught English to students of economically weaker sections around the university campus
6. Avid Rock Climber

What do I want from an MBA?
To learn the building blocks of business. And to eventually start my own business exploring the space of outdoor experiential learning.

Hi, INSEAD alumna here. Would be useful to know the breakdown of your GMAT score. I advise you to assess GMAT scores for the quantitative and verbal sections separately. Admissions committees evaluate your performance relative to your peers within your demographic group, typically using a bell curve approach. For those from overrepresented populations at top business schools, a Q49+ score (above the 75th percentile) may be considered borderline elite. This score signals to the admissions committee that you can handle the rigorous and analytical academic curriculum.

For native English speakers, on the other hand, a high verbal score is viewed positively by admissions committees because it demonstrates a strong command of the language, which is consistent with the expectations of this population.

For non-native speakers- Your verbal score is more likely to reflect your ability to participate in discussions in a truly global and diverse group at schools that place a high value on discussion-based pedagogy (such as INSEAD and Kellog).

That said, your work area in ed tech and content creation analytics seems interesting. However, it's challenging to discern the impact and scale of your work based on the couple of work focus areas you mentioned at the beginning. Make sure you understand what each of the schools on your list seeks in applicants and incorporate those aspects seamlessly into your MBA application narrative. Consider consulting with an expert who can provide more guidance. You may be running a bit behind on the INSEAD application if you haven't already begun. The Round 2 deadline is only two weeks away, and the application is quite extensive.

Your ECs are decent and have much scope for narrative building.

Get candid advice tailored to your specific situation. We do not cap discussion hours with our applicants.

Aanchal Sahni (INSEAD alum, former INSEAD MBA admissions interviewer)
