Not sure I really understand your question. Timing is super important but there are lots of ways to practice your timing. Can you ask your question again?

Eh Kyle thanks for ur kind reply...I was just asking while doing say problems from OG....Do i need to fix a time say 10 minutes 10 problems kind of stuff or I just need to solve each and every problem at its own pace (since I am in the 1st phase of prep)...

Thanks

Hi Balajikarthick1990,

Have you taken any FULL-LENGTH CAT's yet? If so, then how did you score (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)? If you have not taken one yet, then you should take one soon (to establish a 'baseline score' and get a sense of your overall strengths and weaknesses). Once you have that score, you should report back here. Jumping into timed practice sets when we don't have a clear sense of your broader skills can be a problematic way to approach the study process.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

The first phase of preparation is about skill building - understanding the content that is being tested and building your foundation of knowledge. As you gain an understanding of what is being tested, you move into timed sets (ie 10 problems in 20 minutes) to hone your skills and improve timing.

Guys my conceptual part in Quants is completed. I am going to start solving problems. Do I need to set some time OR can solve sums without any boundary/limit.

Thanks

Hey Balajikarthick1990,

In case you haven't seen, the GMAT Timer is just one of many features we already have in the Practice Pill Platform: www.gmatpill.com/gmat-practice-test/

You can time yourself for each question, get a video explanation explained the GMAT PILL way, and post questions / get answers to your questions.

Best of luck - and we are here to help.

Balajikarthick1990 -

At this point, if you are just getting started working problems, I would say that it is more important for you to get familiar with the way questions are asked and how the test makers can make even the simple concepts more difficult. As other responders have mentioned, since a major portion of the GMAT Exam itself is timing and pacing, you will eventually need to work problems under the pressure of timing. Also, even with just getting a feel for how the concepts can be tested, you will find yourself seeing how to approach some problems much more quickly than others. Hope this helps and let us know if you have other questions.

Hi Balajikarthick1990,

If it's still early in your studies I'd suggest recording the time that it takes you to do a set of exercises just to get an idea of the pace at which your working. Once you have a good grasp of the content and you're practicing, you might begin to work within the time constraints. This can help you get used to the time constraints of the exam well before you take it.

I hope that helps!
