Dream009
Profile - Female - 9 years of work ex, normal delhi university grad
Geography - India
Started with working for backend for consulting firms and hated consulting to the bones - but remained there since it paid and was the only place I could mint money from
Challenge: It's becoming difficult to progress to higher roles or to switch to higher roles in India
What do I want? : I like work life balance which is what made me stay in background profile for long, but I also am a bit ambitious to land a bit higher role and higher pay. Do not want to move to front end consulting. Currently at CTC ~35.
Situation with current employer: They are unable to promote for the next 2 years given the market slump, can't provide a sabbatical - hard to create a business case for long term holiday - when ppl are being laid off in the company
What kind of MBA/ career move would help me project myself to leadership roles in 3 years:
> Executive/ part-time MBA in India - fills the MBA tick and by 12 years of work ex hopefully land a bigger role by switching
> One time MBA in India - by IIMs- Not inclined to ISB since avg age is low. IIMs - avg package is below ~35 - and I am an avg student - so I am a bit jittery on what may happen if I land at a similar or lower package
> Try global MBA - which are hybrid/part time to brand myself with international MBA in India
> Quit job and pursue full-time MBA from abroad, my appetite for financial burden is limited - I am not married - but my salary is what keeps the home expenses going - so would want to take the least amount of loan and channel much of my savings to home cost - that's why was contemplating EMBAs abroad.
> Avg time if I can spend outside India would be 2 years
I know seems a lot of constraints - but I tried to pen down as much info as possible to see how bad of waters I am treading.
Hi
Dream009,
Given your current situation, a traditional full-time MBA might not be the most feasible option, especially considering the financial implications and potential career disruption.
Here are some specific suggestions to help you navigate your career path:
Short-Term Goals:
Upskill: Focus on acquiring skills in areas like data analytics, digital marketing, or project management. These skills can make you more valuable in your current role and open up new opportunities.
Network Strategically: Build relationships with senior leaders within your organization and industry experts. Attend industry conferences, webinars, and workshops to expand your network.
Seek Mentorship: Find a mentor who can provide guidance and support as you navigate your career.
Long-Term Goals:
Executive MBA (EMBA): Consider pursuing an EMBA program to gain advanced business knowledge and leadership skills. This can be a good option if you want to balance work and studies.
Part-time MBA: This option can be a good compromise between full-time and executive MBA programs. It allows you to continue working while pursuing your MBA.
Certification Programs: Consider specialized certifications in areas like project management, data science, or digital marketing to enhance your skills and career prospects.
Key Considerations:
Financial Implications: Assess the financial implications of pursuing an MBA or other advanced degree.
Time Commitment: Evaluate the time commitment required for your chosen path and balance it with your work and personal life.
Career Goals: Clearly define your long-term career goals and how an MBA or other advanced degree can help you achieve them.
Remember, your career path is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution. It's important to consider your individual circumstances, goals, and priorities when making decisions.
