Hi All,
I am currently hesitating between doing an MBA and an MSc in Data Science to consolidate my background as a data scientist.
Columbia offers both. Is there a way of completing both degrees at the same time? The MSc Data Science is not listed in the list of dual degrees but I was wondering if you guys knew someone who managed to pull this off.
By the way, if anyone knows another top BSchool offering both programs and allowing the dual degree I'm very interested (haven't found any though).
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated!
Regards,

What I'm inferring from your post is that you currently work as a "data scientist"? Unfortunately, that term nowadays is extremely ambiguous and could be anything from a data entry personnel to a PhD statistician doing high-level analysis.
Most of the current degrees available in "data science" have popped up to fill the current buzzword craze and the only one I can think of off the top of my head that also has a reputable b-school is Berkeley. However, I have no information on dual degree possibilities and due to the very recent introduction of most of these programs, I doubt that many people will have any details to add.
I'm confused though, if you currently work as a "data scientist" why are you looking to go back to school for it? Surely you already have a quantitative degree that is preferred in the field (by quantitative here I'm looking at Math, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science), right? Most of the people working as data scientists don't even have a degree in data science and most don't need it, so why are you looking for the data science program when all the material is out there for someone to learn? As you should know, data science is less concerned about people holding a degree in data science and more on evidence or projects that show an understanding of the typical methods.
Even if there is a dual degree program available, do you have a decent reason why you would want to pursue this path? Personally I think you've approached a fork in the road and you're trying to take both roads at once. In my opinion, I think a DS degree is a waste.
