Here is my reasoning-

Refer to the last paragraph- the Author refers to the contradiction in the customer behavior. Of those who complained about security landed up buying from the direct mails.
Then he goes on to explain may be there is some benefit and not all Direct emails are bad . But he never for once questions the surveys themselves. Here is reasonable to deduce that he might think of the surveys as being legit and representative. So B can be deduced.

As for D i don't see any information in the passage that says people prefer to remain in the mailing list that affects society . IMO it is too farfetched.
