1)Yes,Death in 1700: Bach,Handel,Mozart
1388+757+3035=5180
Total performances =24722
Now 1/5 of total=4944.4

So yes 5180>4944.4

2)Yes,Composers who lived in both 1800&1900 are:

Prokofiev=931(performance)
Dvorak=1071
Puccini=723
Rachminov=673
Ravel=864
Strauss=720
Stravinsky=849
Verdi=845
So yes here out of 8 only 7 had performance fewer than 1000 times

3)No,Died least recently is Bach(1750) has 1388 performances
Died most recently is Shostakovich(1975) has 779 performances

And 779*2=1588,but Bach performed only 1388 times <1588

1) Bach+ Handel+Mozart = 1388+757+3035 = 5180
Total performace = 24722
quick check- 5*5= 25 so the total performance needs to be <=25. Ans- Yes

2) Proko- 931
Puccini- 723
Rach- 673
Ravel- 864
Strauss- 779
Stravin- 849
Verdi- 845
Therefore, exactly 7 composers. Ans- Yes

3) Bach- 1388 (Died in 1750, least recent in comparison to others)
Shosta- 779 (Died in 1975, most recent in comparison to others)
779*2 = 1558 which is more than number of performance by Bach (1338). Ans- No

a quick use of the calculator provided by GMAC shows clearly that 7906 divided by 24722 gives you 0.319 which is NOT less than 30% but actually exactly 31%.

Am i missing a new instruction or new math style in the GMAT? Bunuel chetan2u kindly advice.

RO1

Sorting the table by Year of death shows that 3 composers died in the 1700s: Bach, Handel, and Mozart. The sum of the number of performances for these composers (1,388+757+3,035) is 5,180. Dividing this sum by the total number of performances (24,722) yields 0.20953, showing that performances of these 3 composers’ work accounted for more than 20% of the total, or more than one-fifth.

The correct answer is Yes.

RO2

To have lived in both the 1800s and the 1900s, a composer would need to have been born prior to 1900 and to have died after 1899. Sorting the table by Year of birth shows that 1 composer, Shostakovich, was born after 1900. Sorting again by Year of death shows that 11 composers died before 1899. That leaves 8 composers (20−1−11=8) who lived in both the 1800s and the 1900s. Only 1 of these, Dvořák, had his work performed 1,000 or more times; the other 7 had their work performed fewer than 1,000 times.

The correct answer is Yes.

RO3

Sorting the table by Year of death shows that Bach died least recently, in 1750, and Shostakovich died most recently, in 1975. Bach’s works were performed 1,388 times, and Shostakovich’s were performed 779 times. Two times 779 is 1,558, and 1,388 is not greater than 1,558. Thus, Bach’s works were not performed more than twice as often as Shostakovich’s.

The correct answer is No.

Would love some suggestions on how do you manage time on a question like. I got this right, but spent almost 5 minutes.

Would you use the calculator straight away? how do you decide before doing an approximation, whether it would work here or not, as after approximating, I found the numbers were quite close, and hence had to go back to the calculator.

Total of 5180. The total for all 24722, 1/5 of 24722 is ~ <5000 so yes these composers account for more than 1/5 of the total number of performances.
So Yes
Statement 2: After sorting the table, only Dvorak has greater than 1000 performances.
