For many centuries it was believed that only classical Euclidean geometry could provide a correct way of mathematically representing the universe. Nevertheless, scientists have come to believe that a representation of the universe employing non-Euclidean geometry is much more useful in developing certain areas of scientific theory. In fact, such a representation underlies the cosmological theory that is now most widely accepted by scientists as accurate.

Which one of the following is most strongly supported by the statements above?

A. Scientists who use Euclidean geometry are likely to believe that progress in mathematical theory results in progress in natural science. There is no information for us to be 100% sure about that; it only mentions that Euclidean geometry was believed to correctly provide correct mathematical theory and that now it is not exclusively considered relevant for developing scientific theory. Scientific theory =/= natural science

B. Scientists generally do not now believe that classical Euclidean geometry is uniquely capable of giving a correct mathematical representation of the universe. Yes, as discussed in A - we can infer this 100% because in some areas of scientific theory non-euclidean geometry is better.

C. Non-Euclidean geometry is a more complete way of representing the universe than is Euclidean geometry. - We know that non-euclidean geometry is better only in certain areas, nothing more.

D. An accurate scientific theory cannot be developed without the discovery of a uniquely correct way of mathematically representing the universe.
There is absolutely no supporting information for this

E. The usefulness of a mathematical theory is now considered by scientists to be more important than its mathematical correctness. There is absolutely no supporting information for this either

Need an expert response on this.

I am not an expert, but let me try to help:

A) It is not stated in the passage what the beliefs of scientists are. There is no discussion or possible way to infer this from the information given in the passage.

B) This is a good option. From the passage, it is known that non-Euclidan geometry is used to model some aspects of the universe. Clearly then, this means that scientists know that Eculidan geometry is no longer the unique way to model, in a mathmatical correct fashion, the universe.

C) Tricky choice! It is known that non-Eculidan is better than Euclidan, however nothing is said about the "completeness". It could very well be that only some aspects of the universe may be modeled better, but non-Euclidan can only be used to represent a smaller portion, making it less complete.

D) Nothing in the passage about this.

E) Once again, it is not known what the scientists believe to be "more useful". This might be something that seems reasonable, however given the nature of the passage this is not something that can be concluded.

Final Answer B.
