Full ride from Babson College or continue applying

Question

Hi,

I am currently working as a scientist in biotech in Boston MA and have, this year, started shifting my interest towards the business side of things. I would like to in the future have a job in Business Development and so, build companies in the healthcare industry. I started getting into the idea of doing an MBA this fall and so I started working towards the GMAT. I also applied in September to Babson College which allowed me to waiver the GMAT. I just received news that I got a scholarship from them which would cover my whole tuition. My dilemma is accept this full ride? Or continue with the preparation and apply round 3 for top tier colleges?

This is something you need to evaluate through your profile - Round 3 is quite competitive, and I am not sure what your background is. Moreover, depending on your post-MBA goals, Babson College may or may not be a good fit. So it is quite hard to say.

SabitB - well done on the Babson admit and waiver! I would suggest looking at the % of alumni in your target roles and geographies, and potentially speaking to some Babson alums to understand the scene, recruitments etc. LinkedIn outreaches can help. Applying in Round 3 is not ideal, however, if your overall profile is strong and/ or you belong to an underrepresented applicant pool, and if you feel another program is more aligned to your career goals, it could be considered. Congrats!

You should apply to schools you would reasonably consider instead of a full-ride to Babson. The opportunity cost is high.

That said, you should go into R3 applications with the expectation that you aren't likely to get in but that you never know. Many people with an appealing offer (such as yours) often times lose steam and end up not applying. If you have the energy and time, go for it.

Babson is primarily known for its entrepreneurial focus so depending on what your overall profile is and considering you will be looking for a job in business development, Babson may not be the right fit for you.
