Can someone clear this doubt, when we say that geometry is removed, does it include coordinate geometry as well?

Also, I have OG 2022, should I buy the new one?

If I remember correctly, the Official Guide 2023 - 2024 does include some basic theory on coordinate geometry under 'Graphing'. There are no questions testing coordinate geometry in the book. So, on the safer side we can expect some questions related to graphs, which require a basic understanding of coordinate planes, to be still tested.

Edit: You may also consider watching the GMAT Focus Official Guides 2023-2024: First Impressions by Avi Gutman in which he confirms the same.

Here is a quick calculator for anyone looking to calculate total GMAT Score based on Sections and who may be wondering how short/long they are. The good news is that each section contributes proportionately to the score and there is no prejudice, so if you can max one out easier than others, go for it

I do now, and hope to be able to build a quick calculator
Legend:
Red 205 - 545 (0 - 47th percentile
Orange 545 - 605 (53rd - 75th percentile)
Green 75th - 99th percentile)

P.S. Something I missed is how tightly the percentiles are for the 50-75th teogether. Look at how skinny the orange sliver is. It is only 60 points wide.

Will business schools solely get a final overall score? Or a breakdown of the score into each section?

Hmm. Why do you ask? What are you thinking about?

I’m pretty sure they will get a breakdown. However, just like with the classic classic GMAT, the rumors that schools really cared about quantitative score were not really that accurate and in general schools treated high school with equal respect.

I would not be too concerned if you score is a bit lopsided. Nobody’s going to really care if you’re verbal is not very strong for example.

Yes well exactly that. I have an engineering background and have heard schools will raise an eyebrow if my quant is not very high, even if my overall score is high.

Hi rezalotif,

Since GMAC has historically always provided section scores in Verbal, Quant, AWA, and IR on the classic GMAT test-taker and school score reports—along with the total aka composite score—I see no reason why it would not continue to provide section scores (60-90 on V/Q/DI) from the GMAT Focus to business schools, along with the 205-805 composite score.

The only standardized exam that I know to provide a total score only (no section scores) is the LSAT.

That's correct, AnkurGMAT20. I was only referring to the physical books - they don't contain IR because IR requires a screen for interactive functions.

Thanks avigutman gmatphobia, a follow-up question. Is it safe to assume that geometry questions wont' be asked in DS(DI) section as well? It is removed completely right?

I think it's too soon to say with certainty that geometry is removed completely, AnkurGMAT20. This will also depend on how broadly/narrowly one defines "geometry".

Thank you avigutman, what I understood is Geometry can be asked in indirect way(Both QA and DI) sections and we should know the basic rules of it. We can even practice for it. Sorry for too many questions, I just wanted more clarity on the topics to better prepare for focus edition

I know a person who took 10 tests and they observed quite a variance with RC. 9 out of 10 times they had 4 RC passages with 14-16 questions.
1 time they had 3 RC passages only with 12 questions. So it seems there is a variance or some kind of flexibility that is not just random.

Wow, that amount of variance is interesting and surprising, especially since that would mean between 7 to 11 CR questions, which is quite a wide range.

Every ESR for the classic GMAT had the same number of verbal questions counted, with 8 CR, 10 RC, and 12 SC. It will interesting to see what the analytics look like for focus edition.
Interesting, I've now also experienced that the number of RC and CR can vary significantly; on practice test #1, I just saw only 10 RC, whereas my other 4 tests had 14, 14, 14, and 13 RC.

Wow! 10 RC’s!!!

Did you have only 3 passages?

I think 14 is the standard.
The least I had out of 1o tests was 12 so far. For passages with three questions each.

Yes, for example, this question appears on practice test 1, and refers to a sphere: https://gmatclub.com/forum/a-spherical- ... 16425.html

It gives you a volume formula, but you don't really need to use it. You just need to understand the concept of translating a change in 1-D to a change in 3-D.
