Looks like it. It's been 6 days and it has not really budged...

P.S. I see march 31 as the last day for the in-person GMAT Classic... that may be just the schedule and hours for my local test center that's open on a Sunday. Yours must be closed.

mcelroytutoring
UPDATE: I have possibly discovered the final date for the classic GMAT: March 30, 2024.

Even though today is Monday, October 2nd—and GMAC’s automated system would normally allow me to register for GMAT test dates as far ahead as April 2nd, 2024 (6 months from the date of registration, to be exact)—I cannot register for a test date past 3/30.

Hence, that date appears to be the very last chance to take the current version of the exam.

UPDATE #2: As of today—Tuesday, October 3—I still cannot register for any classic GMATs past March 30th.

UPDATE #3: It's three days later—Thursday, October 5th—and I still can't sign up for any GMAT classic exams past 3/30.

I think it's a pretty firm conclusion at this point!

Thanks mcelroytutoring and bb. This is super helpful info. It's pretty hard to guide people when you don't know when the current GMAT is going to sunset!

It's pretty silly that GMAC keeps people in the dark and doesn't make this more transparent.

UPDATE #2: According to the "theofficialgmat" Instagram page, the actual final date for the GMAT Classic is January 31, 2024.

I tried to verify this by logging on to mba.com to re-register, but the website is currently down for updates.

I have also heard recent grumblings online about GMAC requiring students to reschedule their GMAT classic exams. These were likely test-takers who had registered for the classic GMAT during the (previously allowed) February 1st-March 31st date range.

Hi Experts,

I have just received an email from MBA.com that the current version of GMAT will be available till 31st January 2024. After that starting from 1st February 2024 only the new version, the Focus Edition will be available. I am trying to check for the availability of dates for the current one but the MBA.com website is temporarily unavailable. Is it true? Can someone please validate my point?

Thanks in advance!

We were WRONG. They expedited the phaseout. Quite aggressively! Jan 31, 2024.

Yup, we were fooled! In retrospect, Wharton had it right all along.

I also just received the email from GMAC. Title: "The updated GMAT Focus Edition is replacing the previous GMAT Exam on January 31, 2024."

On another note...

Hi ExpertsGlobal5,

You had indicated in a previous post that the Data Insights section is adaptive:

ExpertsGlobal5
DI section is also adaptive (at item level).
Below is an image from page 215 of the O.G. 2023-2024: "Unlike the GMAT exam's Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning sections, the Data Insights section is not computer adaptive. This means that answering questions correctly or incorrectly doesn't affect which questions appear next."

Do you have any new information to share on this issue? Thanks!

This is pretty weird!!! Why would the DI be NOT adaptive?
I understand the old IR section was not adaptive but now we have the DS... I guess I need to pay more attention to the DI section

Thanks bb and mcelroytutoring for the additional info. It's so silly that they could not have made this more clear a little earlier. I literally just advised a student that they'd be ok sticking with the current GMAT until end of March. Oh well! :facepalm_man:

The thing is that page 4 (paragraph 2) of the 2023-2024 OG specifically states that "All three GMAT sections are computer adaptive." My guess is that they did a "find/replace" for Integrated Reasoning with Data Insights in the Data Insights section and just didn't fix this part about being adaptive. I'm sure the "1.2 GMAT Focus Edition Format" part of the main OG was probably written from scratch and heavily edited, so I'm believing that before a line that's likely the same as from the previous OG's IR section.

Amazing research work!
I agree, I think all would be adaptive, though I have to admit, I have so far largely ignored the DI section in my GMAT Prep experiments.

I know. I am sorry for not having better info... Feel free to blame on it me, or better - blame it on Mcelroy   (joking)
P.S. I find this aggressive timeline quite surprising. There are still no third party tests yet, and while they will start appearing soon but still, this is a very tight cutover.

The highlighted part is strange!

Does this mean one can book multiple GMAT Classic appointments until Jan 31?

I think (and I could be wrong here) that it was not allowed earlier.

Thoughts anyone?

Interesting theory. It's not as if the O.G. hasn't included errors and/or typos before (recall the O.G. 2017 fiasco)—but if true, then this would be a major blunder on GMAC's part.

Below is the exact language from page 1007 of the 2022 O.G. regarding the non-adaptive nature of the IR section, for comparison. The language is similar, but not the same: "The Integrated Reasoning section differs from the Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning sections of the GMAT exam in that it is not computer-adaptive. This means that your performance on earlier questions does not determine the selection of later questions."

That is interesting indeed!

Let me check with the GMAC about it. They have recently reached out and seem to be helpful with clarifying some of these contradictory statements… I’ll find out about data sites as well.

In the past you definitely could book multiple exams at once. I have had students doing that for a long time. So I am sure you can still book multiple classic GMAT's if you wanted to do that.
