Hi everyone,
I am writing this to help others, who are planning to give GMAT online, to make informed decision. I have given my GMAT Online exam today (21st June, 18:30 IST). I believe that the whole idea of GMAT online is to support students in writing exams at the comfort of their home. Also, I have heard a lot of nice stories about other's experiences of writing the exam online. In my case, the experience was really compromised due to the technical issues. I am briefly summarizing the whole experience below:
The check-in process was really smooth, and I did not face any issues at all. The proctor showed up on time, and the exam started well. I started the verbal section, and as soon as I reached question number 5, my mouse suddenly stopped working. I changed the cells/battery in the morning only so I was really not sure why the mouse would not work. That was just the start of the next 1 hour horrible experience, I decided to continue the exam since proctor did not respond to my cry for help. As soon as I moved to the next question or in the next couple of questions, the choices were not getting selected in the first click. I clicked the choices multiple times and then the pop-up came that the ESS browser was not responding. This kept happening for every alternative question thereafter. This not only disturbed the flow but also did enough to distract me through out exam. At the end of the first session, I narrated the incident to proctor, and he said that the event is recorded and that I should reach out to the customer support later. The same thing happened in Quant and IR too. AWA was altogether a different experience in which the display used to hang for a few seconds as I was typing.
I have written to GMAC team (customer email id what I got from website). I do not know what to expect from all this. I know that I am not satisfied with the circumstances under which I have given this attempt. I have got a 710 (Q49, V37) in this one, but I believe that I would have been more satisfied with the same score without any technical glitches.
Since the whole event is recorded, I hope that GMAT will provide the resolution at the earliest. Maybe a next attempt at the earliest.
Can anyone suggest, what are my chances here. I do not want to cancel this score but would want another attempt at the earliest (hope they relax 16 days rule in this case).
