Is it ok to have a mirror in the room or does it have to be covered?

It does not cause any distractions as it will be behind me while I take the test, but will it violate any room setup requirements by the GMAC?
I have not come across any guideline on mba.com but there is an @e-gmat article that requests to cover it.

Hi. The mirror should be OK but there have been conflicting reports from several proctors with some requesting to cover mirrors or windows and others asking to come to the mirror to show the reflection/view of the room. I think the mirror will actually be positive unless the proctor is paranoid in some way. This is a situation that can go either way. I would plan on taking the test as is, but have a plan to shift your desk in case the proctor does not want the mirror right behind you.

Hi. Yes, phone is a bad thing. The phone is used only if there is no connectivity via the chat/computer app so you should not really pick it up even if GMAC is calling. I don't see any value in speaking with them per se. They can't fault for not picking up the phone since their rules say don't pick up the phone during the test. Phone is the last resort communication if everything ELSE fails.

The break is fine. There is no issue with that.

The phone call - in the past they have canceled exams as the result of it but if it is that short and that quick, they may just ignore it. To clarify, you violated the policy, and they can technically cancel your test. Will they be doing it? Remains to be seen and I hope they won't but your verdict out of the gate is "guilty" so to speak.

I would suggest start looking for test center options just in case
:(

Hi guys,

So I'm freaking out a little.

Two things:

1. In the 5-minute break before the IR section I got up to use the washroom for like 2 minutes. I made sure to show the whiteboard. I don't think that should be an issue but a little worried after seeing a few posts about this on this page.

2. So during the IR section I got a call from a random number and I panicked and thought it was from Pearson, got up, picked it up and sat back, then answered the call, was somebody from the bank, cut it immediately and went back to the exam. Then I asked to speak to somebody in the middle of the section, then mentioned this to the proctor, she told me I'm not supposed to answer a call and I shouldn't have, but told me to complete the test. I did.

I'm getting paranoid now. I don't have time to rewrite if they cancel my scores a week from now if I want to meet the second deadline early Jan. Should I book an offline test and give it?

Thanks for the reply BB. Appreciate it.

That's fair too. I shouldn't have picked it up. It was just a bad instinct. But it was on speaker, so they probably heard the automated bank message for the second I switched it on and shut it off and basically threw it across the bed. I mentioned it to the proctor too. Hopefully, they don't cancel it. But I guess, if I don't get the score in 2 days, I should book another online or test center exam.

Totally get it and I don't know what would have been my reaction frankly.
It is good you picked it up on speaker, so there is hopefully some recourse to have this resolved positively but there is no way to tell really. They may also take extra time to have this run through the supervisor ladder for someone to make the decision. We have seen people waiting for quite a while. I hope none of thse things happen but you should plan to have a "plan B" just in case :|

Hi,

Once we receive the GMAT Online score, how long do we have in order to send scores to the schools? Is there a time limit?

The score is good for five years so you probably have about 4 1/2 years after you receive the score....

😅 I thought we had only 48 hours to select the B-Schools. Good to know that there is no time limit.

You have unlimited score reports for years basically. I am not sure if GMAC will actually deliver on that promise (they only said unlimited score reports but not for how long....) and I can imagine that at some point they may shut it down for "product improvement purposes"

P.S. I have never seen 48 hour reference for anything.... except their response time  (this is actually serious - it takes them 48 hrs)

Thank you! Did you have your test rescheduled or canceled?
It seems those authorizations are from a cancelation or reschedule (based on what I can piece together - I have not encountered this - thank you again for the screenshot) and yes, I would pick the first one.... though both seem to expire Feb 28 2021 (that's the current final date to take GMAT Online, which likely will be pushed further).

Hope it goes smoothly!

Okay. I remember seeing “the 48 hour deadline” on their website a few months ago around September. May be I miss read it. Thank you for the confirmation bb ! :)

Hey bb,
I will be booking the online for the first time. No revisions or cancellations.
I just realised the authorisations are effectively the same.

I just had a follow up question if you could help me.
I can give an online and follow it up with an offline right after, like in a gap of 5-6 days ? The 16 day rule doesn't apply right ?
This is sort of a backup incase the offline is a mess.
And also since the dates of the offline are flying while the online are sort of available for this week, can i book both together.
I don't mind the cancellation fee (incase i don't need to give the 2nd) for the additional security, given the state of things.

Thanks,
Kanishka

Hi Guys,

Is there a way I can switch to Offline from Online, my exam is scheduled in 1st week of Jan but after reading the feedbacks here and learning some of the glitches test takers have faced, I'm concerned and dont want to jeopardize my test!

Have been writing to GMAC for over a week, but they don't seem to bother!

You want to call or do a chat. But I think the two scheduling systems are different and you cannot switch from one to the other. I have not seen it done seamlessly.... maybe one day...

Thanks BB For the Revert,

Tried calling them but was on hold for long and did not get any convincing reply on Chat as well!
I just saw that the time slots for my preferred dates (A duration of 10 days) is all gone, just because of the late revert from GMAC :(

Sorry. That’s kind of how it goes with the appointments. It is a stinky situation with the online/offline test scheduling systems. Even scoring systems live in diff places... 😯

Not great customer service I guess....
