FYI, I was in your same position, I hope you took the test, I was feeling really nervous the night before, and thought about canceling, so instead I just scheduled another exam. I was shooting for a 700+ as well and hadn't gotten that on any practice tests. Went into the test, took it, got a crummy score, a month later for my rescheduled test I ended up with a 710...

I ended up taking the test.

I got a 590 :(

38 Q
33 V

I plan to study for the next month and see where that takes me before scheduling my next text.

I originally scheduled the test for December so that I'd be able to apply for second round to schools for Fall 2012. Given the score I got, I won't be going until Fall 2013 so I'm not going to schedule my test until I truly know I'm ready for it.

Sounds like you needed a pretty high score - sorry about not hitting it.
Sounds like your practice tests were consistent with your result (sorry but it also gives you an idea and an indicator about how much you need to score on practice tests in the future).

I would highly recommend not to stretch your prep too much. I have repeatedly seen people score less after taking a very long time to prep.

My advice would just take the test so you get a feel how the test taking experience is. I had already taken the test once and didn't do as well. I thought I could have done better but I know how the test feels and know what to expect.

I believe this is very good advice. I personally studied for about 4 months but had to go through several GMAT "burnouts" during the later months of the prep. There were times when i just could not make myself look at another CR or SC.
I feel that there is a point in everyone's prep where they realize that they have reached the peak of their abilities. If you are happy with the level of prep you have put in and your scores are starting to stagnate, stop studying and take the exam.
