Does anyone out here know how will the waitlisted candidates be evaluated?
Will they be offered admission from seats left after offering admissions to R2 candidates?
Or will all the waitlisted folks be given equal opportunity to compete with the R2 pool for all the available seats?

I have a weak memory that it's closer to "Or will all the waitlisted folks be given equal opportunity to compete with the R2 pool for all the available seats?"

Why am I not surprised to see that almost all (if not all) the Waitlisted candidates are from Hardware/Software industry (and mostly Asians).

From the stats, we can speculate that they admitted 20% of the R1 applicants. Dinged 30% and waitlisted 50%. Does that sound reasonable?
Assume they admit 37.5 in R1. That means there are ~200 applications in R1. 50% waitlisted means 100 are on the waitlist now. That sounds ridicules.

Continue on that thought, if they get 300 applications on R2. The total pool will be 300(new)+100(waitlist). Since they will admit 40% of 250 seats in R2, that is 100. The rate of admit is only 25% for round2.

Continue on to R3, one can get similar numbers (25% admit), this conflits with the 44% admit rate. So some numbers above must be WRONG. But which?

Interesting exercise. I can't imagine a full 50% of applicants are waitlisted, that seems quite high. I'm not sure how representative GMC is of the whole population.

i doubt that they will waitlist 50% applicants... but hey, who knows! :(
i am not very confident of this waitlist pool anyways... since they already have all the R2 applications in front of them...
don't they already have an idea on who'd make the final cut and who wont?
i doubt they will give us equal opportunity as R2 folks... if they do, then that would mean that R1 is the most important round that one should apply in... which, according to the school, is irrelevant... :(

Did rd2 interviews go out yet? I recall that they do almost no evaluation on the application until the interview is done.

In any case, if I were the adcom I'd first take the absolute must admits for round 2 then compare the remainder with the waitlisted from round 1. So essentially that would mean we effectively just applied again in round 2.

The fact that we are allowed "updates" might simply be our opportunity to "catch up" those few months that the round 2 folks had to get promotions, increase responsibility, etc.

Just my guess

Here are my profile details for the initial post -

700 GMAT, 3.4 GPA undergrad, 3.9 grad.
4+ years in semiconductor, male, bay area.

My biggest concern was length of work experience. From class visits, talking to students and student profiles on the Haas website, I got the impression that Haas likes much older candidates.
So the good news for engineers contemplating Haas EWMBA somewhat early into their careers is that -- it is possible!

Anybody here doing a class visit on Feb 23rd?

I received an invitation to interview today. Waitlisted without an interview as of Friday. Invited to interview on Monday. Quite a swing of emotions.

This is really interesting. I wonder if this is standard operating procedure? Or Haas got fewer/lower quality 2nd round applicants and are expanding their options? Or something else entirely.
