There are no hard and fast rules with age. But generally the averages do represent the student body but they are averages for a reason so there are some students above them. As an older applicant you should make sure it is clear why you are applying to b-school now, how it can supercharge your career, and what you can bring to the student community (usually looking for strong managerial experience here). The score you should be targeting is the score that can get you in at your target school. Look at the average score at these schools and aim to hit this or be above this to maximize your chances. You want to target the scores that will best allow you to reach your post-MBA goals but as an older candidate if you are qualified and create a compelling application then you can get in even being a bit older
