Hi FAlam,

Since you have not been taking the FULL CAT each time, you've been training yourself to take a shorter, easier Test (and your practice scores are likely 'inflated') - as such, we don't have any realistic scores to use as a basis for comparison.

Given this situation, and the limited timeframe you've described, it is NOT realistic to expect that you would score 700+ in the time that you have remaining. So you have a couple of options:

1) You can take the GMAT on September 21st and get whatever score that you earn (which will almost certainly be far below your goal and will require that you retest later).
2) You can adjust your plans, push back your Test Date and continue studying.

When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Hi FAlam,

For the Schools that you were planning to apply to in Round 1, if you think you *needed* a score in the 650+ range (or even 700+ range), then you will almost certainly have to 'push back' those applications to Round 2. Doing so is NOT really a problem though - there will still be lots of 'spots' available at every School that you're applying to.

Since you've taken a 'book-heavy' study approach so far, and your scores have been in the 400s and 500s, THAT approach is clearly not helping you to reach your goals. Many Test Takers who use that type of approach often get 'stuck' at a particular scoring level, and it's likely that this is what has happened to you. As such, you're likely going to need to invest in some non-book study resources.

What were the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores on your last few CATs?

Yes I understand that it is unrealistic to target round 1 now.

My Q score is in the range of v40-43 and and Verbal is 28-30

by book intensive you mean: learning concepts from text books like MGMAT or doing problems form OG

Hi FAlam,

When I use the phrase 'book-heavy', I mean that you were working primarily with books (studying and doing practice problems) rather than working online. Even the best books are limited in what they can teach you; they also can't force you to approach questions in a certain way and their explanations are often one-sided. With that lack of interaction and guidance, many Test Takers end up doing things 'their way' and limiting their improvement.

Based on your Scaled Scores, you have the potential to pick up BIG points in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections; those scores also imply that you would benefit a great deal by focusing on GMAT tactics as you continue to study. Thankfully, with Round 2 deadlines, you will have several months to continue studying.

based on material that I have already covered and, my scores, what do you suggest would be an ideal time, if I take up empower gmat to hit my desire score.

Thanks

Hi FAlam,

Since I don't know you well enough to know how quickly you can adapt to new tactics and how easily you can get out of whatever 'bad habits' you've developed, I can't say for sure how long it would take for you to hit your goals. I suspect that 2-3 months of consistent, guided study would be required though.

What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi FAlam,

Since you're planning to apply to some really competitive Schools, a high GMAT score will be a must (a 640+ would likely put you 'in range', but the higher the better). Given the scores that you've listed, I still believe that another 2-3 months of proper, guided study will be required.
