Again it is more of logic than maths..
(1) They left at 9.30 am on Monday and returned at 9.30pm on Friday.
We cannot say from givinf info if it was Monday and Friday of the SAME week or DIFFERENT weeks..

(2) Their home was empty for exactly four days.
Empty means no one was there But who else comprises of their family..
May be they are the ONLY two in the family, then answer is 4 days..
But may be there are others who went and came back ...

Combined-
We can say for sure that Fran and Fred stayed away for more than 4 days and there is someone else too occupying the house...
But the situation of (1) still remains..

- They left their home or friend's house? and returned to their home or friend's house?
- insufficient
Statement 2: Their home was empty for exactly four days.
- Maybe their house was unoccupied for 4 days and occupied by somebody else for 2 days, so total days way from home is 6
- insufficient
(1)+(2) - they could left and returned to their friend's house, their own house could have empty for 4 days and occupied by somebody else and they didn't return to their for a while -> InSufficient
