What information have you really provided?

Your question - Can anybody help?
-> Help with what?

Your assertions -
1. You are doing something wrong
-> What according to you are you doing wrong? Which section are you struggling with? Are you struggling with timings?

2. Not sure whether you are succeeding at that
-> How do you think you are not succeeding? Have you given any mocks yet? What were the scores if so? What is your target score? etc. etc.

You say Any help would be useful - If I give you this advice - "Don't think much, everything is alright. Just meditate" Is it enough? it is "Any help" after all.

People want to help here. But unless you provide enough information, be a little more specific, give some background/context, nobody will be able to help you.

My Information is as follows:

I am a 2020 graduate looking to score 730+ in GMAT. I am full time working professional. According to me, I am not doing so well in Verbal section mainly SC, CR. My timings are fine but I am unable to deduce the answer even though I have made my notes, I revise them. I am sure that I am not succeeding is because I am not scoring well like 4/10. I gave a mock test last month after completing the entire course once, I got 580 and its not good so I started going through all the concepts again to understand where I was going wrong but it didn't help me because I am solving questions with proper error logs but it still didn't get me anywhere. So are there any better materials that I can look at or I should keep practising?

Thanks

You should definitely check out other materials. I used Manhattan SC guide, and CR Bible. E-GMAT has great reviews, but not everyone might be comfortable with the teaching methodology that it employs.

Other than that, what you probably need to work on is to understand what GMAT is trying to test you. If you give too much focus on the theory you might not be able to do that well. You need to employ what GMAT is trying to test you in your daily life. For eg. CR requires you to challenge the status quo by asking the right questions. If someone makes a conclusion based on a fact, try to ask questions such as whether it is a valid argument or there are some gaps in the validity of that argument, identify what could be the gap etc. Employ more reading in your daily life. After each paragraph try rephrasing it in your own language - see if you can do so. Try to use GMAT SC learnings in your daily life - in your emails, while writing journal (if you use one) etc.

Since you are a fresh graduate you have ample amount of time to improve. You need not worry much. I would work more on the fundamentals if I were you. 580 score means you still lack that fundamental grasp. Moreover, you should also look into improving on the Quant. You can try TTP for that. Also, at this point you should not worry about timings, work more on improving the accuracy. Take as much time to solve a question and then look into the number of answers that people on GC have provided to that particular one. Whether your thinking matched to those of others. This will not only give you confidence but also make you realize the gap in your understandings and thus you will be better able to focus on your weaknesses.

Hope it helps!! Shoot any further questions you might have

No, don't rush in. GMAT is a very different ballgame unlike some of the other standardized exams. You need time especially that you are at 580. Take your time. Why do you want to hurry when you have just recently graduated. When do you plan to apply and for which courses? In any case, take your time and do not give your exam until you have been able to reach your target scores in the official mocks (Do buy the 6 of the mocks you get from the official website)

aradhyas - thank you for being a student. I looked at your account and saw a few things:

1. Potential - You did well in some cementing quizzes even though you faltered in many.
2. Inconsistency - while your scores improved when you revised concepts in SC, they were extremely low when you attempted concepts for the first time.
3. There was a huge gap (~30 days) between finishing the course and cementing.

I understand why you say that despite spending the time it seems as if you have made limited progress because your scores indicate the same. Having said that, let me tell you that the sugar is there.. i.e. you are like a cup of tea that contains sugar. The sugar is there.. it needs to be stirred.

Write to the support team and let us define a path forward with a hyper-specific plan in place.

Hi aradhyas

In my opinion, the e-GMAT course is more than sufficient to score 730+ on the GMAT. I myself recently got done with the GMAT just recently with a score of 740.

I would suggest that you look at strategically reviewing your errors to find the patterns in the kind of problems you are getting wrong before solving more questions. I have recently written a full-debrief of my journey to completing the GMAT on the first attempt which I am sharing below. I have added everything that worked for me in terms of strategies and tips. Hope this helps you with your preparation as well.

Please feel free to DM in case you have follow-up queries.

Hi aradhyas! Since you mention SC as your specific area of concern, thought I would mention that our sentence correction book Sentence Correction Nirvana is perhaps the only book that offers a score improvement guarantee, and is especially designed for non-native speakers.

After reading the book twice (yes! it's an academic book, and so must be read twice in all seriousness, to reinforce the concepts), you will start looking forward to solving SC questions!

The book is available on Flipkart and Amazon.in. You might want to refer to these sites, to also read testimonials of how readers have benefited.

You can als go thru this post on how Soubhik, who scored V51 (overall score 780), vouches for our book.

If you want to sample a chapter before deciding to go ahead with our book, please PM me your mail-id (along with the chapter that you would like to sample) and I will be happy to send that chapter to you by mail. In addition, the entire Grammar section of the book is also available for free preview at pothi.
