If 25% of the company's employees contribute at least 4% of their salary to the Charity Fund, what percent of the company's employees contribute at least 5% of their salary to the Charity Fund?

(1) 20% of the company's employees contribute at least 4% but less than 5% of their salary to the Charity Fund
(2) 95% of the company's employees contribute less than 5% of their salary to the Charity Fund

(C) 2008 GMAT Club - m18#18

Can anybody show how to do this problem with double set matrix? i tried and somehow failed
with A . :(

answer not A??

if you assume 100 to be total number of employees
question: >=5% ??

given: >=4% U = 5% U > 5% equals 25

from 1) >=4% U <5% equals 20, implies 5 people have given >=5%
from 2) 95 people gave <5%, as info about how may people participated in the contribution is not goven we do not what the rest 5% people have done

If 25% of the company's employees contribute at least 4% of their salary to the Charity Fund, what percent of the company's employees contribute at least 5% of their salary to the Charity Fund?

Say:
X% contribute less than 4%;
Y% contribute at least 4% but less than 5%;
Z% contribute at least 5%.
Note that these groups don't have intersections and X+Y+Z=100.

Given: Y+Z=25%. Question: Z=?

(1) 20% of the company's employees contribute at least 4% but less than 5% of their salary to the Charity Fund --> Y=20% --> Y+Z=20+Z=25% --> Z=5%. Sufficient.

(2) 95% of the company's employees contribute less than 5% of their salary to the Charity Fund --> X+Y=95% --> X+Y+Z=95+Z=100% --> Z=5%. Sufficient.

Answer: D.

Hi bunuel
for stmt 2 to be sufficient, we need to assume that everyone participated in the contribution. It is not mentioned anywhere right?

Z% contribute at least 5.

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

The correct answer is marked D. However no where is mentioned that all the employees contribute to the fund. Can some expert comment on that ?from my understanding It should be explicitly mentioned otherwise you cant assume things.

Just a visual approach of the aforementioned.

P.S. I got it wrong too because I didn't get the "at least 4%" => 0% - 4%.
