If a and b are constants such that a < b, is the graph of x on the number line a single segment of finite length?

1) a ≤ \(x^2\) ≤ b
2) a ≤ 3x + 2 ≤ b

(1) a≤x^2≤b
a^1/2 ≤ |x| ≤ b^1/2

Let a=4 and b = 3, then
2≤|x| ≤ 3, Solution set for x is [-3,-2] and [2,3]. Insufficient

(2) This equation can be simplified as
(a-2)/3 ≤ x ≤ (b-2)/3. This will give finite values for x as a<b. Sufficient

B is correct.

Thanks bunnel. Slope of the line questions are a real pain for me.
