If x is a negative number, what is the value of x?

(1) x^2 = 1
(2) x^2 + 3x + 2 = 0

From stem we know that X is negative. Looking for the value of X.

1) x^2=1
x=1 or x=-1 Because the stem tells us that X is negative, we know that x=-1 and therefore this statement 1 sufficient.

2) x^2+3x+2
can be simplified to (x+1) (X+2) which means X=-1 or x=-2 Not sufficient because we have two negative answer choices.
