In a class, each of the students received a single grade of A, B, or C.What percent of the students in the class were internationals?
(1) Of those who received a B, 40 percent were international.
(1) Of those who received either an A or C, 60 percent were domestic.
So, the students are divided into two categories - D and I
Let A, B and C be the numbers of the students who received a single grade of A, B, and C respectively.
We are finding \(\frac{I}{A+B+C}\)
(1) Of those who received a B, 40 percent were international.
So 0.4B are I.
(2) Of those who received either an A or C, 60 percent were domestic.
so 0.6(A+C) are domestic, and, therefore, remaining or (1-0.6)(A+C) or 0.4(A+B+C) are I.
Combined
Total I = 0.4B+0.4(A+C)=0.4(A+B+C)
Total students = A+B+C
% of I =\( \frac{0.4(A+B+C)}{A+B+C}*100=40\)
Suff
C
so 0.6(A+C) are domestic, and, therefore, remaining or (1-0.6)(A+C) or 0.4(A+B+C) are I.
