130.In England, a larger percentage of the students take their A Level exams in college than is the case in Northern Ireland.

A. In England, a larger percentage of the students take their A Level exams in college than is the case in Northern Ireland.

B. In England, a larger percentage of students take their A Level exams in college than do so in Northern Ireland.

C. A larger percentage of students in England than is the case in Northern Ireland, take their A Level exams in college.

D. A larger percentage of the students in England than do so in Northern Ireland, take their A Level exams in college.

E. In England, a larger percentage of the students take their A Level exams in college than the Northern Ireland students do.

An eagle eye question

Watch the students...their VS students....their

The students cannot go with their so A,E out
C and D used wrong comparison as they are comparing two different regions

B is the best

E says: In England, a larger percentage of the students take their A Level exams in college than the Northern Ireland students do.--->E gives a nonsensical meaning and hence is WRONG. E seems to suggest that the ENTIRE EPISODE of "a larger percentage of the students take their A Level exams in college than the Northern Ireland students do" is HAPPENING in ENGLAND !! in other words E seems to suggest that EVEN Northern Ireland students are IN ENGLAND !!

Can someone please explain all the answer choices?

B - is missing 'they', doing so alone doesn't make sense

The question is checking comparisons with parallel structure.
C& D- Correct structure would have been A larger percentage of students in England than in Northern Ireland
In choice B, than do so represents the action ‘taking the test.’ Because of the structure, it is the closest match over A&E
