Can someone explain me why you guys ask for the breakdown of the admits by citizenship and gender ? What's the info you looking for ? is the ratio of admits per category is known and fixed ? In which case, what is it ?
Its just an indication I guess. For sure, INSEAD will want representation from every country possible, so if you had a country with 0 people so far I believe your chances would be a bit higher. Other than that, INSEAD claims that there aren't any other quota other than the 10% cap per nationality (I am not sure if there is an official cap but INSEAD likes to say all the time how diverse they are with no nationality exceeding 10%). So, in theory, you could have as many admits from Malta as you would have from India. In practice, INSEAD says that there is a % of the population that fits the profile so smaller countries have less people admitted due to this fact. To confirm this, you would want to see how many people with the particular citizenship are a) within the age range, b) have appropriate studies, c) appropriate work experience, d) can afford the studies, e) have the motivation to pursue such a degree. If you knew this information for different countries, then you could compare with admission data and get a clear picture of which is actually the case.
Also, I think that women in general would have a slightly better chance since % of women is most likely a ranking element and they would want it to go up.
Finally, I think the competition is worse for countries reaching caps as they will have to select only the best of the best to fill the limited for the country places. For all the other countries not reaching this limit I think its a plain field with direct competition amongst the applicants (after at least one who is just good enough to be admitted but irrespective of competition per country).
So I think the algorithm is like this:
Is the candidate's application acceptable?
If no -> ding.
If yes -> place candidate in "maybe" bucket per nationality.
After all candidates are filtered based on the above you proceed with the following:
For those countries that only have one applicant -> send interview invitation.
Take the rest of the applicants and rank them. Starting from the top draw a line after about 500 applicants+(% of people you don't expect to accept the offer + %those that might fail the interview) and do a grouping per nationality. For those nationalities that are over quota, take the top x% (cap + a few more) -> send interview invitations the rest remove from the list (and ding them). Now some more will be added in the (500+x) list (since some people from India for example will have been removed due to cap).
Do as many iterations needed until no country is over quota and you have your list!
