| FROM Insead Admissions Blog: Social Gods and Finance Wizards |
![]() One month in and I love it. While my first few weeks weren’t pretty, after (seemingly everyone) I reached a stress overload (I thought I might have had diabetes, but I realized it was just anxiety), I’ve developed a healthy, highly-productive routine. I can honestly say that I am performing at close to peak capacity. Yet, it is difficult to remain focused because there are so many seductive business temptations around me: start-up boot camps, corporate cocktails, intense socializing opportunities, and rigorous academic demands. Some of my classmates have completely immersed themselves in the start-up world or the Uncertainty, Data & Judgement discipline (a statistics course) while others have become social gods or goddesses. Yet, the aspect about INSEAD that I have most enjoyed is the role that my small group plays in my education. I learn more from my fellow group members than from any class or instructor. Each person’s strengths and weaknesses are extremely well-calibrated and balanced with the other group members’ personal assets, producing a well-rounded, effective team. Consequently, I learn more about finance (my weakness) from our group’s Polish and Dutch finance wizards than from my finance class (note: I still learn a lot from my finance class). So, to continue this stream-of-consciousness post…… My first month takeaways:
Finals are in a few weeks. I will hopefully travel to Shanghai afterwards to visit my fiancée and hustle back in my second home (China). I also have a small startup I’m working on related to air-freight logistics. Peace…. |
