Essay 1: Describe with examples the most important personal quality that you possess that significantly enhances your prospects of being successful as a leader? (400 words max)
This unique essay topic by ISB requires a lot of reflection about your personal qualities and leadership in general. Most applicants would end up writing about qualities like teamwork, integrity, negotiation etc.. There are only a limited number of leadership qualities that one can choose from. So, how to make your essay stand out? Only by coming up with personal, realistic and authentic stories from your life.
- Remember leadership does not necessarily mean leading a team, leaders could be present at any level - Spend a lot of time reflecting on what incidents from your life (personal/professional) will showcase the best of your leadership - list them down - Identify the prime leadership quality that you exhibited in each of those situations - If a particular quality occurs in the list multiple times, it gets easy, choose that quality. - In case of no repetition, discuss with a friend or mentor and take help in shortlisting which story conveys more impact
Now you have the story and a quality to write about. You may choose more than one story also, but remember the word count. Instead of chronologically reporting about the incident, convey passion through your writing. Explain the situation, how you behaved and what impact your behavior had on your organization or the society. If possible, establish your consistency. Remember that the topic is about your future prospects; so tie your past with how you will use the particular quality to become a successful leader in future. Include examples of how that quality would be helpful during your stint at ISB, if you can.
Essay 2: What are your short term and long term career goals? How will Post Graduate Program at ISB assist you in achieving your goals? (400 words max)
This is a classic career goals essay that ISB has been mandating for years now.
- Describe your short term and long term career goals - Make sure it is well fit in continuity with your past (Demonstrated passionate examples) - If you are planning for an industry/function change post MBA, justify it clearly - Do your research about life at ISB - Choose to write about how one or two elements of ISB life will launch you in the journey towards your career goals - If possible, end with a remark on how your long term career goal will be for a greater good

how many quality should I go with in leadership essay , I have strong story to tell from work when I took initiative and got promoted after I completed it , after promotion among first thing I did was change how stores worked which helped in improving efficiency of plant by 12 percent . so I have two good points to talk about , can I add my third important trait by how I gave back to society by teaching in ngo for three years on nearly every Saturday and Sunday (also how my backgroundfrom school and college days inspired me to join that particular ngo and do that particular job )beside these 3 traits I am not able to figure out more traits
The topic clearly mentions "The most important quality". So write about just one quality, you need not write all good stories. You will not be able to do justice with 400 words. You can pick one or two if both tie back to the same quality. Reach out personally if you want help in choosing the stories that are relevant.
All the best!
