Hi Pensive Panda,

Overall decent profile, but if we are talking seriously about an ISB admission, I'd like to know further about the spikes- what are your specific achievements at work? What impact have you created on business in the two companies where you have worked? you belong to the most common pool of applicants so being able to differentiate your experiences from those of other applicants would be very important.

REgarding ECAs, you've done a few things. Again what did you achieve? For example, how many books are sold?

Aim for a 710+ GMAT score. While GMAT is very important, your overall profile needs to be equally good in order to land an interview. Do share more details about yourself

Hi pensivepanda

You have a good profile that can really stand out with a great application. Sapient and Razorpay are both known brand names, so that definitely works in your favor. You haven't mentioned why would you like to do an MBA, but it would be important to establish a link between your professional achievements and strengths to your goals. This will be a very important aspect of your application and can differentiate you in the competitive IT applicant pool.

Extracurriculars are good, esp if you have some traction on youtube as well as for your book. If you are a YouTuber, the quality and consistency of content matters too, for the achievement to be significant.

Lastly, aim for a 720+ so that you are safe from a GMAT perspective. Our final recommendation is that you get GMAT out of the way as soon as possible and then spend considerable time on your essays.

For a detailed discussion, feel free to reach out to us.

Hello pensivepanda,

Thanks for writing in.

Of course, you stand a chance!

While you belong to the typical Indian male IT applicant pool, your extra-curricular activities, and start-up experience will definitely be appreciated by the Admissions Committee.

To stand a good chance, aim for a score upwards of 710; the higher the better; while the GMAT score is important, the essays will be equally important, as well.

You could watch the following video to gain a perspective on how to approach the ISB essays:

Hi Vaibhav24340,

Thanks for writing in.

You definitely have a strong profile complete with international exposure and leadership experience.

A score of 710+ should give you a strong chance at cracking ISB; of course, how well you portray your strengths and achievements through your essays, and how logical your career goals appear will be very important, as well.

Should you have any follow-up questions, please feel free to reach out to us.

Hi Kumar02Abhishek

You have a good profile but you need to work hard to make it even better. The best thing you can do now is to focus on getting your essay story right.

Ask yourself what makes you stand apart from your peers? In the past 33 months, what are your professional (and personal) achievements? How can you link these to your goals and how will the ISB PGP help you here. It will be very important to hunt for powerful stories and anecdotes that can differentiate you.

Feel free to reach out for a discussion.

Hello!

Could you evaluate my profile as well?

Work experience:

Currently employed with Tata Consultancy Services at Hyderabad, India- since January 2017. I had clear insight that I didn't want to be working on a technically oriented role so I kept my choices narrowed down to managerial roles within my firm.

Used to work as a Project Management Officer (Jan 2017 to Dec 2018) on 1 project- tasks involved were billing, Stakeholder Management, Work Order management, Revenue/Margin enhancement and maintenance of the Revenue Cost registers.

Took up 2 more projects within the next 6 months- notably, one of the projects is one of the biggest projects operating out of Hyderabad.

Since January 2019, have been promoted to a Pricing Analyst- currently part of a global team of 25 Pricing SMEs. I'm the youngest person on boarded onto a team where the average work experience is 9 years (I completed 2 years of work ex on Jan 2019).

A typical day in this role involves working on deal cost models, developing P&L and Cash flow for Contracts, supporting the Bid managers, Sales heads and Solution Heads in developing Contract schedules and determining financial implications of Contract terms.

So by the time I apply for Round 1 this year, I would be having roughly 31 months of work ex.

Academics:

B. Tech in Electronics and Telecommunications from Cochin University of Science and Technology (NBA Accredited Tier 1 College) (July 2016= 77.4%)
12th- CBSE (2012= 87.33%)
10th- ICSE (2010= 84.00%)

Extra curriculars:

Classical music enthusiast, trained in the same (vocal)- both Carnatic and Hindustani styles. Proficient in playing the Keyboard/Harmonium (instruments).

Love debating, public speaking and am a voracious reader. Reasonably confident enough to claim that I have a way with words.

Won a certificate of recognition from the CBSE for outstanding performance in 'English Core'- for being in the top 1% of successful candidates in the country (India).

First GMAT score= 600 (Nov'18). Attempting again by Jul'19- aiming for a 750+.

Do I stand a chance at being a part of the ISB PGPM Class of 2021? Reading some of the profiles here was pretty intimidating- I'm feeling pretty timid. But all the same, I'm excited. Looking forward to a response! :-)

Hi vsnair9

Quick feedback on your profile and chances:
- The pricing intelligence role you are in is excellent, and would certainly give you an edge in terms of your knowledge of contract sizes, TCVs and ACVs, and price benchmarking. This does differentiate you from the typical IT applicant.
- That said, you are still from TCS, which is a company from which many many people apply to ISB every year, and will still be broadly considered part of the IT pool. This article will certainly be of relevance to you in general.
- Overall, your ECA are fine (the English core certificate doesn't count, though) and your acads are good as well.
- If you can achieve your target GMAT score, you should definitely have a good chance at ISB.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi Kumar02Abhishek

Overall, looks good, but need a bit more insight into your role. Do you work on AI/ML aspects of autonomous driving, or some other part (say, design)? If it is the former, then even with a 710 you should be in with a good chance with a decent application.

Hello apurv06,

Thanks for your query.

You definitely have a diverse background and this will definitely add value to your profile. Of course, your experience will need to be tied to logical career goals so that the dots in your story add up well.

Having said the above, there is no GMAT score that will guarantee an admit! However, to stand a competitive chance, you must target a 710+; of course, in addition to the same, how well you portray your achievements and strengths through your essays will be very crucial.

The following video will help in this regard:

We would like to take this opportunity to offer you a detailed profile evaluation for free. Should you feel the need for the same, please feel free to get in touch with us.

All the best!

Hi apurv06

You have a very differentiated profile and that's something that ISB values and appreciates. Professionally you are sorted, especially if you can recount stories from your experience that highlight your strengths. Extracurriculars may seem a little dated, as college was a while ago. From a GMAT perspective, 710+ should be a good aim for you, but anything above 700 should be okay too.

You haven't mentioned anything about goals. A lot will depend on how you can link your current achievements to your future goals.

All in all, you have a good shot at ISB. Our advice would be to get GMAT out of the way ASAP and focus on writing a great application.

Feel free to reach out for a discussion.

Hi SarojAttal,

As a reapplicant, it will be important to showcase what is different in your profile from last year to this year.

1. It could be a better GMAT Score.
2. Progression in your role/promotion/ extra initiatives at work.
3. Making sure your post MBA career goal is clearly articulated in your essays.
4. Your extracurriculars - Remember it is not about how many things you have done, but more about how it has made you a different person.

Your profile is great. For this year your focus should be a better GMAT score and clearly articulating your post MBA Career goals and showcasing how an MBA can fit into your journey.

regards
Shree
