Hi ZIggyA,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Starting with stats, your undergrad GPA is good. The average GMAT score for ISB is 710, so I suggest try to push your score 710+ to be on the safer side. On the work front, you have a big name in your CV, which means that your efforts should have a big impact on the industry. You'll need to share the projects you have undertaken and highlight information about major sales goals you've met. I would need more information about your work profile like leadership and promotions, if any.

ECs play a critical role in your apps, revealing your diverse personality and allowing adcoms to learn about the various facets of your personality. Think about what you like doing and discuss it in order to make the applications more compelling, as this is what can set you apart. ECs aren't about doing something big, they're about your passions, interests, and hobbies outside of work. So, try to go deeper and find answers that demonstrate your diverse personality. You may want to read an article on role of extracurricular activities in your MBA application to get some better insights :)

If you need more direction/guidance over any aspect of your application and have any specific concerns, you can ask us on the forum Ask MBA & Beyond.

You've set a short-term goal that is pretty much in line with your previous work experience. What are your long-term goals? What you want to do in the future (say after 10 years). Adcoms are interested in how you think about the future, what challenges you've discovered with existing processes, and how you plan to fix them for long-term improvement. So, choose the short-term and long-term goals carefully.

If you are open to suggestions, NUS is a great pick when it comes to health care. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and guide you wherever you feel stuck with your application. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

How to enhance your application and maximize your chances in Round 1 for fall intake

Thanks for sharing the profile details.

We have long maintained that your stats can only show very little about your chances, since they don't clearly define what differentiates you from others.
You will always find hundreds of candidates who have similar stats, or better.

So it's nearly impossible to suggest how good or bad your chances are.

Though, one thing that you could definitely focus on is to identify the key experiences which set you apart from others, and how you could show the impact that you have created at your organization.
Further, what seems to be missing at this time is how are your goals connected to what you have done before, and where does your motivation come from for these goals?

If you have clear answers to these questions, and can bring them out in your application as well, there should be no issues with making it to ISB.
Given that your stats are close to the average stats at ISB.

Hope that helps.

Hi nishantkbakshi,

Thanks for sharing your profile. Here's my assessment,

Acads & GMAT
While the MSc from outside adds value to your profile, overall the undergrad and high school's scores (part of ISB's evaluation!) are on the average side.
The GMAT is on a slightly lower side but your international experience of over 4 years by the time you apply would help cover up. Many international applicants last year got through to Indian schools with similar or slightly lower scores.

Work-ex
This seems laden with technical acumen and a focus on a high-impact industry such as aviation. It would be important to highlight how your work impacted the end outcome for the clients. Also important to explain in simple terms which folks from other industries can also easily understand.
Overall, it is an impactful set of contributions throughout your stints at RR and JSW.

Extra-curricular
Let's cover the "Certified Subway Sandwich Artist" first. At the Hyderabad campus, you can help them improve their bottom line :)
Other feats are good as well + focus on completion of your IET chartership. This would firmly establish your prowess of your current area of work.

Couldn't get a sense of your post-MBA goals. Could you please share? You can also target the IIMs and especially Ahmedabad which gives weightage to international exposure.

Happy to have a detailed chat. All the best.

Cheers,

Hi loveqush,

Thanks for sharing the details.

At this point, you need to purely focus on 2 things:
a) Getting as high a score as you can on the GMAT.
b) Once the above is out of the way, focus on putting forth a set of compelling essays that not only do justice to your achievement but also project a set of goals that align with your experience thus far; qualities such as leadership, problem-solving acumen, and ability to thrive in diverse situations should be highlighted.

Here is a video that might help with the essays writing process:

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch.

Hello nishantkbakshi,

Thank you for sharing. How many times have you taken the GMAT thus far? I would suggest you work to maximize your score for ISB. While 690 is not too far off from the average, getting into the 700s range (ideally around a 720) would significantly enhance your candidacy.

That said, your work experience and overall profile look solid, especially your management and leadership experience in your current role. You also have some interesting extracurriculars that should be highlighted in your application in a way that gels with your overall story.

Since you are coming from a competitive applicant pool as an Indian male engineer, a lot will come down to figuring out how to differentiate yourself. The most successful candidates craft unique and compelling personal stories. This is a large component of Personal MBA Coach’s support and the area where we find our clients need the most guidance.

Take a look at our comprehensive services and feel free to send a note to [email protected] if you are looking for help putting together strong applications for ISB and your other target schools!

Regards,
Personal MBA Coach

Hi nishantkbakshi,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Let’s go one by one:

Stats: ISB places a high value on academics, which I observe are slightly lower in your profile. In addition, your GMAT score is 20 points lower than the average, which might be a hurdle. But I believe your whole profile will compensate; after all, your essays, work profile, and how well you weave the narrative will play a much larger role.

Work experience: Great! I can clearly see elements of huge impact, leadership, and initiatives in your experience. You will need to filter and show the most impactful ones and demonstrate every characteristic that a school needs. Also, what’s more, impressive is you have worked in many roles in the aviation industry. The project you work on at JSW steel is impacting, and it shows your capability of taking initiatives for the betterment of a whole huge sector.

ECs: They are really great too. It's unique and interesting that you're a certified subway sandwich artist. This is what, if highlighted correctly, will set you apart from other applicants. Speaking passionately about your ECs will add diversity to your apps.

Overall you have a great profile. I would like to know your post-MBA goals to link the dots between your prior work experience and b-school. What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect all the dots and build a great story. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to ISB. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Hello,

GMAT: 690

Hi nishantkbakshi, since we sill have time for the application deadline, have you considered re-appearing in GMAT and targeting a score around 30-40 points more than your current score?

In my opinion, this is the single biggest factor aspect of your profile that you can work on in the coming months, to increase your chances.

Hello SameerKaushik,

Getting into the 700s range on your GMAT should situate you well for ISB. What company do you currently work for? It is good to hear that you've had some management experience (even if unofficial) though it would be useful to know more about the business and your position.

You have quite the list of ECs. Remember that quality over quantity is important here. Think about which ones you will want to showcase that best align with your overall story and goals.

If you are looking for help putting together strong applications for ISB and your other target programs, take a look at Personal MBA Coach’s comprehensive packages to learn how we can help enhance your candidacy, and do not hesitate to send a note to [email protected]. Personal MBA Coach has helped many clients gain admission to ISB and would be happy to help you maximize your chances of success.

Regards,

Hello loveqush,

To increase your chances for ISB, I recommend the following:

a) Secure a strong GMAT: Have you developed/solidified a testing plan? Taking a practice test to see how you stack up will help here.

b) Fine-tune your career goals: Reflecting upon and articulating your career goals now will save time when you start to develop your essays. Right now your goals of management consulting/tech are very broad. At Personal MBA Coach, we work closely with clients via our comprehensive services to help them develop compelling goals statements.

c) Strengthen your extracurricular activities: While your extracurriculars demonstrate leadership, you will want them to gel with your overall story. MBA admissions committees should instantly see who you are, what has defined you, and why you have made specific choices.

Of course, strong essays are another crucial way to maximize your chances. This is another key component of our services.

Feel free to send a note to [email protected] to further discuss your application strategy. We regularly help applicants gain admission to ISB and other MBA programs around the world!

Best,
Personal MBA Coach

loveqush
