I applied for Ivey on 22nd July and still waiting for an interview call or a ding mail. Should I expect a ding mail now because in other thread I have seen people receiving interview invites within 72 hours and those who waited for around two received a rejection mail. Just anxious! My profile is as under

Age 26
Bachelors in Military Sciences GPA 2.95/4.00
Work Experience: 6 years of commissioned service in the military after becoming an officer. Was injured last year (that is why want to pursue an MBA to transition into private sector) and became operations manager (equivalent) of a military school/college of over 8000 students and 800+ employees. School was running at a loss and I converted that school/college to a profit making entity (CAD 100,000 last year)

Extra curricular-
Bravery Medal Recipient from the Govt (2018) Gold Medalist Breast Stroke (National Level - 2012)
Mr Fit (2013)
Gold Medalist Army team Hockey (2014)

Volunteer Work - Founded NGO with friends in 2016 and was its Director Publicity for 2 years and then stepped down and a board member since

GMAT - Not taken yet planning to take the GMAT in Aug Last Week

Want to pursue my career in Operations as I think being from military that is my specialty.

I want to know if someone got an invite for interview after waiting for a week or two?

Secondly, for me what do you suggest should be my target GMAT Score and am I selecting Operations my post MBA Goal right? As many alumni says that transitioning into consulting for a military professional is very difficult And which b school will be best for me if I plan to go ahead with Operations.

Thanks for reading such a long post.

Pakistani, male, 25 years.

GMAT - 600 (Q44, V28, IR 7)

Olevel - 7A*1A
Alevel - 4A*
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering - 3.50 CGPA - National University of Sciences and Technology. Graduated top 15% of the batch. This is the top ranked engineering school in Pakistan.
Active participation in student clubs and organizations, leading a couple of them and holding major positions in arranging key events.

Work Exp - 03 years (as of August 2020) in product management across 2 organizations and several product portfolios.
1st being Dawlance, a local leader in the consumer electronics industry. I was actively involved in several innovative products' launches and the introduction of an entire portfolio altogether. Collaborated with teams in Turkey, China and Pakistan.
The 2nd, and current, organization is samsung electronics. Currently working as a product manager for LED TVs for the country, having previously been the product manager of refrigerator and washing machine. Not a promotion per say, and more of a role change, but could be taken as one if one considers the appointment at the core division.

Social work:
Worked for StreetStore - a charity organization. Assisted them in fundraising and sat up a street store event where clothes were distributed among underprivileged families.

Worked as a writer for Humans of Pakistan for over an year - helping portray a positive image of the society.

Currently a Green Card holder for WWF - a donation membership that works towards improving atmosphere and the needy people associated with it. I'm part of the Air project, where projects are carried out to improve air quality.

Reasons for MBA - At my current career stage, and the path I've chosen, a management degree (read MBA) makes a lot of sense for further growth and career development, and learning - given that I come from a technical background. An MBA would add on to my current experience and better equip me to take on senior positions in strategy/consulting/management.

Post-MBA goals - Move into management consulting. Also open to staying in project management.

I understand that the GMAT score is extremely low so I'd appreciate your feedback on the profile and suggestions towards next steps, if I should go ahead with the application with any realistic chances or I'm better off improving my GMAT, and potentially take a one year gap.

Also, what would be alternate decent schools (UK/Canada)?

Hi NZA,

Thank you for sharing the details. Based on the information I have, here are my two cents:

I do not have precise knowledge over your stats but to exhibit your academic potential and to compensate for your low GPA, I may suggest a GMAT score of 680+ for you to target.

Your work-experience seems the highlight of your profile. On the surface it looks great with a big brand in your CV (as mentioned by you, MNC) and having worked on the leading products must cultivate leadership qualities in you with a huge impact on the organization.

I am keen to know what kind of initiatives you took in and out of work. Also, it would provide me with great insights if I may know your ECs, community involvement or hobbies/interests and your post-MBA goals. This will help me know your suitability to Ivey and suggest you other great schools that fit your profile. Feel free to DM me or book a free session as per your convenience.

I’ll be more than happy to assist you in your journey.

Cheers!
