Can you help me to understand B vs E?
Are not noting and promoting both acting as coma + verb-ing modifiers correct?
Do you mean B vs. D? Because E has an incorrect they (conditions?) in it.

Option D could mean that John Smith (by providing information on the conditions...) is promoting "needless surgery".

Hi I understand the SC part of it but can anyone explain what this means. John provides information on some conditions, noting that these conditions can sometimes be used to promote needless surgery.

Does , noting here imply that John provides information by noting or does it tell us the impact of this information?

Can anyone help AjiteshArun

Hi experts,

The verb+ing form after a comma describes the immediate action or any action in the previous part of the sentence ?

Asking this because, i thought that "noting" here is describing "conditions lead women to a gynaecologist" and marked C as the answer.

Hello Blair15,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, the "comma + present participle ("verb+ing")" construction refers to the main verb of the preceding sentence, not necessarily to the nearest verb; in this case "lead" is part of a modifier phrase that acts upon the noun "conditions".

We hope this helps.
All the best!

John Smith provides information on the conditions that lead women to a gynecologist, and he notes that these conditions can, and sometimes are, used in the promotion of surgery which is not needed.

(A) and he notes that these conditions can, and sometimes are, used in the promotion of surgery which is not needed wordy

(B) noting that these conditions can be, and sometimes are, used to promote needless surgery correct, no ambiguity, states the meaning accurately , concise

(C) and notes that they could and sometimes are used unnecessarily in promoting surgery changes the meaning , can is replaced by could

(D) sometimes promoting needless surgery wrong modifier .. gynaecologist ( is not promoting the unnecessary surgery )

(E) which they use sometimes to promote unnecessary surgery wrong modifier .. gynaecologist ( is not promoting the unnecessary surgery )
