That's not correct. All types of interviews weigh the same. Otherwise, the school just wont do it. Yes, adcom interviews tend to be more standard, they are not weigh more or less than that done by the alumni. One of our clients from India got an interview call (R2) pretty recently. While the email strongly encourages to visit Ithaca for interview, it is never a bad idea to reach out to the adcom and seek an alumni interview. Even if it not in your city, as one of the earlier post mentions, you can do a little bit of traveling and see if any nearby city has an alum with which school can match you. In particular, for internationals it is always better to talk in person than on phone (because of different accent, pace of speaking, not able to see the reaction of the other person, etc).

An extremely positive (or negative) interview with an ADCOM member will carry more weight because that person will literally sit in the Decision Meeting and advocate for or against you. An Alum will not. At Johnson, there is a portion of the interview evaluation that assesses the degree of effort the applicant made to get to the school. If you're international, it's not expected (unless you're in Canada) so don't sweat it. Johnson has some very Tuckish qualities when it comes to whether an applicant made an effort to come see them. They aren't clear parallels, but there's a resemblance between the two schools when it comes to evaluting "fit." Neither Ithaca nor Hanover is for everyone.

Same here, non-US R2 applicant. App went under review on 16th but haven't heard anything so far.

Did any of the R1 admits pull the trigger and send in the deposit? I really liked Cornell but warmer climates are callin' my name.

The alums did a fantastic job trying to sell the brand and the program to me, but I'm declining the offer shortly. Hope one of the waitlisted R1 applicants gets my spot.

I figured it'll help me feel better if I don't get into Tuck in 10 days. I will, at the very least, have saved $1500 if Tuck tells me not to pass go and not to collect a superior degree

Do we have to actually do something to decline? I assumed this would just sort itself out when they didn't receive my deposit.

The acceptance letter has a link to access the enrollment form, where you are asked for your decision and an optional short explanation. I filled it out and submitted it a few minutes ago.
