Remind me what does it stand for?
Technically anything that was relevant 10 years ago and critical reasoning is still roving today. Nothing has changed about critical reasoning questions.
In my opinion, it has now led to increase in time taken to arrive at the correct answer. Reading the question, does point us towards specific locations, however, it aslo leads to overlooking of various factoids embedded in the paragraph. Moreover, the primary purpose and inference questions require you to read the whole paragraph as a whole anyway. I find a strategy that helps is mapping which facts/words are present approximately where, so that even if the passage is to be revisited, we can directly jump to it.

Strengthen Weaken Inference Method of reasoning ,SWIM. It is actually a method where you read the Question stem FIRST and then the stimulus. is this method legit? some heavily promote it (Veritas Prep) while others say it may only work for easy difficulty questions, an inefficient way to approach CR and a complete waste of time.
