Hi,

I've decided to retake my GMAT in order to better my chances at the schools I am shooting for.

I would like to hit the Round 1 dates for a couple of my schools if possible. I was wondering, what is the latest I can take the test? If I take it and submit the score to the schools I am shooting for, say 1-2 weeks before the First Round deadline, will they count it for that round? Does it differ by school? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

From a date perspective, you could take it the day before applications are due for all the school cares. Now, you don't want to do that for two reasons. One, you'll be stressed out enough :). And two, you won't have your AWA score. So 2 weeks is a safe window. Schools may make an exception for the AWA if you can explain it (a line in the optional essay) so that's an option but why take it down to the wire, y'know?

But doesn't it take 30 days for GMAC to send the scores to the school?

Thanks for the reply! That is good to hear. I don't think I want to do that either, but it is good to know I have the option. As for the AWA, I got a 6 on the last GMAT I took so I feel pretty comfortable going with that. Thank you again!

Hey km95134 - good question and yes, it does, but for 95% of schools that doesn't matter. Most programs just ask you to self report or, in the case of Columbia for example, scan in your print out. Some do want an official report so make sure you know before hand. But for the majority, your official score report only needs to be sent to most schools once you actually get in. So if you're applying to a school that lets you self report, you're golden!

Hey bigchuck - you're very welcome! And yes, because it's a retake and they can see your AWA score from before, they should be fine. Best of luck with that retake buddy!
