GMATNinja could you please explain the difference btw (B) and (E)? Also, would (E) be correct if 'in' had been followed by 'the case of'?

Experts can you please clarify how B is the correct answer..

Can "like" be followed by a preposition "with"?

In this question, https://gmatclub.com/forum/thai-village ... 05017.html, a couple of experts have mentioned that like must always be followed by a noun/ pronoun.

Based on the above, I chose option D. Can you also explain why would D be wrong? Is it because we are comparing two noun entities and using "like" is the correct idiom?

Also just for general understanding can this be a correct answer? "Like that of Genetically modified crops, commercial production of agriculturally suitable Bt brinjal involves two steps."

Can "like" be followed by a preposition "with"?
Hi Bhu750,

Many people believe that the kind of like that is used to introduce comparisons is a preposition. Prepositions are followed by noun phrases (or gerund phrases), so we would not want to say something like "like with", because with is also a preposition, not a noun.

I consider this a reasonably reliable rule. I would still check for errors in the other options, but options that include "like with" or "like in" are most likely going to be incorrect.

Will A not be the correct choice because it is phrased as giving an example?

Hi experts,
Can you please shed some light on how "with" makes the comparison logical?
