Do the chances of getting a scholarship decrease in R2 as compared to R1?
Not necessarily. Given the timing, schools don’t know whether R1 admitted candidates will actually enroll until well after the R2 deadlines, so they have plenty of funds left.

How can I align my answer to the question "Why MBA", being a project manager for an automotive MNC? Currently focusing on the project execution part - need to switch to strategic roles - does these types of answer-initiatives work, or what can I add extra? Pls help in this.

I aim to pivot from my current finance roles (cost/ financial planning and analysis) to Corporate Strategy roles. I wish to transition to a direct impact role in business as compared to the business partnering I am currently doing.
Think about the skills and knowledge you will need to make this transition. An effective "why MBA/why our school" essay will clearly identify these gaps and point to specific resources (classes, conferences, clubs, etc.) that will give you those skills. The key is to show you have thought through what gaps you need to fill and how the school will fill them.

Think about the skills you will need to move upstream into a more strategic role

I am waitlisted at a school where they say culture fit was strong, but they wanted more clarity on career progression. What part of my story do you think is still unclear or underdeveloped?
Any tips to get off the WL?

Most schools don’t provide feedback, so it’s fortunate that you know what to focus on. Perhaps your goals were not specific enough or you did not show that you have a clear understanding of what it will take to achieve that goal. There needs to be a logical trajectory from where you are now to where you want to go (can the bridge be built with an MBA?). You may want to show that you are already taking steps to set yourself up for success, such as taking a relevant pre-MBA course or earning a relevant certification, talking to people who have the careers you are aiming for, etc.

If we don’t get to your question today, please reach out to me at gavriella@mbamission.com for a free consultation in which we can focus entirely on what’s on your mind!

How effective are the GMAT waivers towards the application to interview stage and interview to offer stage?

Can we assume if we got the interview invite and do well in interview, the school won’t consider the lack of GMAT?
A school is not going to interview you if they don’t think you are qualified, or highly likely to prove qualified, but even landing and doing well in an interview may not guarantee admission

I don’t mean to be discouraging, I just mean that Admisssions go back after an interview and review the overall profile, so it’s not always linear from doing well in an interview to admission.

If in case someone gets rejected post interview- given there are no other red flags.
Can they get dinged just because of lack of test scores?
It’s possible. Schools need to see evidence of your academic ability. If you are not providing a test score, be sure to highlight other evidence of your academic strength and analytical skills.

What could be the reason for getting denied or waitlisted even if the interview goes very smooth?

Sometimes it comes down to class makeup - AdComs are very conscious of having a diverse class with students from all professional backgrounds.

Don’t worry about what happens after the interview, that is out of your control! Your best bet is to knock the interview out of the park so AdComs feels they MUST have you in the class!

I see, need to have a bit of luck on your side even if you do everything well. That is life!

Is it true that non traditional degree has more chance than traditional degree to get accepted?
Traditional applicants have a different challenge (distinguishing themselves from an common pool of applicants) than non-traditional (explaining their background and why an MBA makes sense), but there is no inherent preference for one over the other.
