Hi Ashok,

You cannot really 'game' the application process in the way that you're inferring (stating that you come from "this pool" instead of "that pool" likely won't influence an Admissions Team at a reputable School). In that same way, you cannot 'game' the GMAT by taking it in a different country.

Business School Admissions Officers tend to be savvy people - they are not easily 'tricked' and they can spot when something is 'wrong'/'off' about an application. As such, you should put your energies into crafting the strongest OVERALL application that you can AND make sure that you properly 'market yourself' to each specific Program that you apply to.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

ashok1986: Short answer:You would be considered an Indian if you need a work permit post your MBA. It does not matter whether you apply from Ireland or Germany. Why - because if you need a Visa, you are considered an international student. In this regard, you will be no different from someone who is on an H1 visa in USA and applying to a US B-School. On the other hand, someone who is of an Indian origin, but has an American Green Card is not considered international and will not compete in the same pool.

Why do B-schools work like this?
Because every Business school has a certain quota of International students that they want to admit. Why - because of the limited number of H1 Visas that are available post your MBA. The last thing a Business school wants is to admit a student only to have him/her go back to her country of residence and not be able to pay the hefty fees that they charge. Many B-school officers admitted that they have turned down a number of extremely talented international students because of the H1 quota limitation.

Is GMAT any different?

The exam - not really. The quality of testing center - most likely.

I hope the above helps.

Thanks a lot Rich,

I don't mean to trick, but just wanted to know out of curiosity :)

Thanks for sharing.

Your concern that the pool of applicants from India is very competitive is valid. Thus, you would do well to highlight unique experiences in your essays to help distinguish you from those with similar backgrounds (origin, industry, GMAT).

As mentioned above, GMAT tests would be standardized across regions.

All the best!
