MBA Application Verification Timing

Question

Hey GMAT Club,

I have a bit of a unique situation, and I am concerned about the MBA verification process, not because I believe anything wrong will turn up but due to my bonus and my current relationships.

In short, I work at a small firm and there is no separated HR department that can verify the information without all of my MDs finding out. As a result, if they contact them before I break the news and my MDs find out, it could sour the relationship as they found out from a background check firm and not from me. Furthermore, if I try to stay ahead of it and speak with my MDs just after receiving my first round results, my bonus could be severely impacted as those are not paid until February. Given that last year my bonus was 40% of my total income, I would like to prevent that.

Thus, is it possible to request a postponement to contacting my current employer until, say March? Or will they simply begin to verify the information after you are accepted?

I find this one of the situations that you can direct this question to adcom. As I remember, I asked Duke similar situation in that all whom I know in previous company left and I do not know anyone more. Just be honest with them in your case because there are lot of cases that they face with applicants.

The verification process starts a few days or weeks after the admission offer. You probably can ask for postponement, I see no harm in doing so, if you explain your delicate situation. 
You can also consider postponing your application to R2 which will obviously delay the admission results and therefore the verification process. Decision release dates for most schools for R2 are in March 2018.

Hi,

Had a question about the verification process. I have enrolled into the MBA program of one school but I'm still awaiting decision from other schools that are my first preference. Should I get the verification process started for the admitted school? Will I have to pay and redo the process again if I get into another school.

Hey nirvidesai , I think you should get the verification started based on the deadlines. This will cost you few bucks for sure but would atleast prevent you to delay your admission process of that school. Regarding your second query, yes you may need to initiate the same process again. All the best

It depends if you would consider going to this school if you do not get admitted at some of your other programs. If you do then you should wait to the deadline to put down money and then if you have not received an admit from another school which you prefer then you submit your payment to hold your spot.
