I got the waitlist too. Staying optimistic and hoping for the best!

Hi, eccentrino -
Are you located internationally or domestically?
Which round did you apply for, and when was your interview?

Best of luck!
Cheers,
djzealot

I'm domestic, applied Round 1, and interviewed in Cambridge. The experience was pretty much as described by previous posters. What is unclear to me is what makes a killer interview that gets you in vs. one that lands you on the WL (as I thought my interview went great).

I think "fit" has a lot more to do with it than we are giving credit for, and that definition can be very different depending on the applicant pool. There's probably a big premium on uniqueness, which I think bodes better for ship captains and orthodontists (congrats Seadog and Braceman, btw) than bankers, consultants, CPAs, and IT professionals (the typical flood of applicants for b-school). The typical flood still get in, but I think it becomes harder to stand out potentially (i.e are you the best banker, or the best IT professional, or the best consultant in the pool?) It's hard to know without knowing who is in the pool, or who is yet to be evaluated in the pool.

For those waitlisted, it looks like we probably wouldn't know our fate until late March or early April based on posts from last year. Not a happy thought, as it could all result in a big fat rejection, but enough daylight to keep some glimmer of hope alive.

Cheers and good luck to all those still in the race.

Hi again, eccentrino -
How long ago was your interview in Cambridge?
----> EDIT: I see from a previous post you interviewed earlier this week, right? Seems like a very quick response from adComm!

Hi, rammuaddib -
The deadline for Round 3 applications was just yesterday (Feb 15th). Interviews are going until March 15th or so.
I don't think waitlisted people will hear until ~March 1st at the earliest, as I believe R2 interviews go through until the end of February.

These dates are my best guesses going from the dates listed here: https://mitsloan.mit.edu/fellows/admissi ... n-process/
and the fact I applied R2 and had interview slots all the way to beginning of March to choose from....

Cheers,

djzealot, true, that about the decisions probably having to wait till R3 process is over. But my guess was, while that makes sense for domestic candidates, for international the decisions might happen earlier, so that the candidates can apply for visa, and do whatever relocation planning necessary. Hence, I reckoned, they don't encourage international guys to apply in R2/R3, and to manage this process separately, they'd have some diversity targets... guesses, and guesses. If you, or someone has more info, please do chip in.

I think since I was R1, they got back to me quickly, so to begin evaluating R2.

In other forums from previous years, it looks like they don't start pulling off the WL until end of March, but I could be wrong.

Background for myself: Industrial Engineering background from a small, but well-known US program. 16 years of Risk Management, 8 as an executive, with an actuarial background. Trained with big 4 accounting firm, but then moved to a global venture firm assessing risk primarily for market entry analysis for portfolio companies, new product/innovation development, and M&A deals. Involved as the chief risk associate (and later as an executive) in large and small deals across North America, Europe, Middle East, and Australia. Covered energy/natural resources sector, primarily, and some alternative energy.

Finally, on djzealot 's suggestion, I wrote to Adcom about waitlist - the official word from the adcom director, follows:
"...Thank you for your message and for your continued interest in the MIT Sloan Fellows Program. The waitlist will be cleared by mid- to late-March and you will be informed of the Admission Committee’s final decision by then.

We appreciate your patience."

So, guys who need time to have visa/, better have all your docs ready, just in case you are popped a surprise and have to travel on short notice.

If it's of any reassurance, no administrative work has begun as yet for the admitted candidates - whether it is visas, I20s, or loan applications etc... the pace is fairly quick come end-March, I understand, so everyone accepted from the waitlist, will also be very much following the same curve...

Yes, a lot less time to plan, especially if you plan to make it to the orientation as well, which is from 13th - 17th April.

I completed an application for R2 and updated it by the R3 deadline.
Right after I updated it, I got an interview invite. So maybe I'm in R3? I'm not sure.

Thanks djzealot for the quick response. I submitted on the last day of R3. Started the process really late. So, let's see!

Did you get an interview invite yet?
I think it's been mentioned before but AFAIK interviews are only happening in Cambridge now until March 15th. If you're not local to Boston, I suggest getting prepped to fly to Boston for a visit on very short notice.

I am a local; I live less than a mile away from MIT. So, an in-person interview won't be an issue for me. Fingers crossed for getting the interview invite.

Good luck to everyone here on the waitlist and those still waiting to get an interview invite. And BIG congratulations to all those who are already accepted!!!
