I can't answer this as I am waitlisted too.

Please share your detailed profile. Are you an international candidate?

All the round 1 decisions are made, yes? If it's been too long, you should call. This is outrageous. I thought west coast schools are less snobby.

Hi there, everyone!

I joined this website just to comment on this forum, and wanted to wish everyone luck in their applications!
I applied Round 2 and got notified about an interview earlier today.... I updated my resume yesterday afternoon, I wonder if that was the tipping point...?

Cheers!

Interesting. It does seem MIT is very very selective about its cohort - encouraging news for those who make it.

And well, Missq - your frustration is palpable, and understandable. In that situation it might be difficult to reframe the problem. It does seem that MIT has other criteria for selection than individual success and achievement... for this program. If only more of the admitted would make their background known, we might be able to get a better appreciation for this program.

I hadn't even applied Stanford - I saw a better fit with MIT... lesson learnt.

Waitlisted too! ****! I honestly cannot believe it!
Top 5 US college gradaute; college varsity; 10 years work experience, of which 5 years as a manager for Deloitte Consulting, 5 years running my own company which I just sold for 20 million dollars. Yes that's my net worth. I'm an angel investor now. I am literally the most successful and competitive person I know at my age. I am very surprised!

I am sorry if I sound like a jackass. I'm usually modest. I'm sure all of you guys waitlisted excel at what you do. I just wonder, for the lucky ones who were admitted, is your net worth in billions?

I am sorry to say this, but Ram I think that you did the correct thing by only applying to MIT if you felt that MIT was a better fit for your career needs.
Secondly, we may still make it despite being waitlisted. So hold on. Don't give up.

Ram,

I second TG's comment about the right fit. I applied only at MIT too. If you don't see a fit elsewhere, then it is quite pointless to bother I guess. There really aren't too many programs that fit folks like us who wouldn't want to join a younger profile full time program.

Profilewise, I have 14y in Shipping / Energy / Logistics & have been working for a conglomerate for the last decade; with cross functional stints in Houston, Sweden, Singapore & the UK. I also hold a Captain's license for commercial ships of all sizes.

Back to admissions, I think they are very focussed on diversity so it gets a little 'tight' as you get to the end of the admissions process. And yes, though they probably never say it, I think they are certainly appreciative if you visit - they are good hosts, and you get a great feel of what exactly you are signing up for!

I wish you luck with the waitlist process...

Hi, Missq -
Sorry to hear of you getting waitlisted - one of the things I found that MIT is looking for is that there is an opportunity for an MIT MBA degree to help you in your professional journey, as well as you having room to learn. Sounds from your profile that you are very accomplished already; I think MIT looks for potential/ room to grow, and it sounds like you're already at the top of your game. :) Maybe you can teach us a thing or two!

Cheers,
djzealot

For people who were waitlisted - did you find out after an interview?
If it was post-interview, how long did you wait between your interview and waitlist notification?

Thanks!

Seadog, TG1 - I get you. Thanks. Your responses were very reassuring.
Neither was my intention to doubt my prime choice of MIT. However, as TG who is a fin guy might agree, I was just beginning to wonder if putting all the eggs in one basket was the best strategy - no matter how good that basket is. Also, it us just my thought that MIT seems the right fit. MIT/Stanford might think otherwise. Well, time will tell. :-)...

djzealot - the answer may vary depending on when/where the applicant applied. For R1/non-US - the interviews seem to have happened all of Jan , and Admit/waitlist decisions came out early this week - 6th-7th.

Applied rnd 2 and received interview invite last week. Plan on traveling overseas to interview in Boston.

Ten plus years in consulting and high level government/diplomatic work.

What is best way to prepare for interview? What should I expect once there?

Good luck all.

Going to Boston for the interview is a great idea. There are a few posts early on about the interviews; especially some good ones by Braceman. They should give you a good idea. In short, don't dread it like an interview - it's a very open discussion for most of it.

Is it still possible to get an invite from Sloan, or if you have not received a round 2 invite by now is it over?

Hi, PMayer -
According to: mitsloan.mit.edu/fellows/admissions/application-process/ they are still accepting applications until Feb 15th, 2015.
I think if you haven't heard anything by March 1st, you should ping them (as March 1st would only give you two weeks to squeeze in an interview before the deadline of March 15th).

HTH and best of luck,
djzealot
