delmoneyy - Different sectional scores yet the same total score is a common phenomenon on the GMAT. The short answer is that for a specific score range, the total score is the same. Even though we have a scoring grid, I am not sure whether GMAC exactly follows it to the letter.

MGMAT's scoring grid is quite accurate. The one here is outdated and has been used for the past 4 years I believe.
