pibenjamin01
Nationality/Age: Bangladeshi / 30
GMAT: Yet to be taken, however, planning to take the exam in mid-December'20 (Target score around 650)
Educational Background: B.B.A (major: Finance & Accounting, cgpa: 3.50) from Bangladesh; M.Com (major: Accounting, overall marks: 71%) from Australia
Work experience: 2 years in teaching in a private university in Bangladesh
Masters program I intend to apply: My target country is Canada (Business schools: Schulich, Telfer, Smith, and other similar categories)
Post-MS target: Would like to secure a job in Banking or Consulting industry as a Financial Analyst or similar position (depending on the degree that I can avail).

Although I already have a Masters degree, my intention is to get an M.Sc in Accounting (not sure whether PhD is possible as I don't have any significant publications yet) or Masters in Accounting (a big problem is there as Canada doesn't allow direct entry in Accounting masters program for Int. graduates, as far as I know).

Would be happy with a profile evaluation and suggestions (if possible)

Thanks.

Hi pibenjamin01,

Your profile is pretty decent.

Particularly, your GPA (3.5) is quite good and the master's degree overall marks-71% is also satisfactory.

Intending to apply to M.Sc. in Accounting program whilst hailing from a relevant background; this is a strong facet that can give you an edge over others as it conveys your fervor to study the program.

Coming to your work ex., since you already have 2 years of experience in teaching, hence, it's important to note that ideally applicants are required to have a work ex. under 2.5 years.

Further, reflecting on the potential limiting factor, I'd like to add that as you're planning for a second master's degree, you'd be required to back your application with solid reasoning for the same.

You've mentioned it correctly, for international students, most of the schools don't offer a direct entry in Masters in Accounting in Canada. For instance, Schulich might require you to get a diploma from Canada in Diploma in Intermediate Accounting before admit and for Queens, it's recommended to send across your resume to the University for eligibility to MiM in accounting. Similarly, applicants with non-Canadian degrees don't qualify for Tefler.

In the face of such a case, hence, it's ideal to consider and be open to other countries/schools as well such as the US, UK, France, Germany, etc.

Also, since Masters’ in Accounting is a program demanding strong quantitative skills, it would be great to target and attain a score equal to 680 or above.

Hope this helps.

Nationality / Age: Chinese/27
GMAT/GRE Score: To be taken
GPA / Work experience: 2./3.5/1.5y work experience (not business related)
Educational Background: sociology
Master program(s) you are applying to?: business analytics
Post-MS Targets: business analyst (preferably light consulting)

Hi graceo,

Your work experience of 1.5 years, even so, non-business related, would help you address your skills and knowledge in the concerned domain. You’d be able to illustrate specific learning from your job stint in your application and showcase your professional exposure.

Coming from a sociology background, in your application, you would be required to surface your motive to change your field and pursue a Master’s degree in Business Analytics.

Alongside your academics & work experience, you would also need to cast light on your extracurricular engagements, social welfare initiatives, and the like to portray yourself as an all-round applicant.

Since you haven’t expressed your interest in a specific country, I’d like to add that there are a number of schools in the US & Canada. Besides, you have some options in the UK, France, and Spain as well. So, I’d suggest a bunch of schools. Also, if you can confirm your GPA scale once we can give you a better idea about the countries, as the UK is really focused on the GPA.

But before that, you must know that schools are broadly categorized into 3 categories - Dream, Safe, & Competitive. Thus, below are some school suggestions from each of these categories-

Dream- HEC Paris, LBS, Ivey, MIT, USC Marshall, Columbia University,
Competitive- Rochester, Columbia University, Duke Fuqua, HEC Montreal, Schulich, ESADE, ESSEC
Safe- Ohio State University, University of Utah, University of Texas, IESEG

As you’re yet to take the GRE/GMAT, it would be great to target and attain a high score- it would really help strengthen your profile try to aim for 300+/690+ score

Lastly, A proper evaluation requires an understanding of your extracurricular, Academics, and professional exploits. We will need details on the same to give you a comprehensive evaluation. Hence, it would be helpful for you to take a Profile Evaluation to gain insights into your profile’s strengths and weaknesses.

So, below is the link to our FREE Profile Evaluation Tool to help you gain in-depth insights into your profile’s strengths and weaknesses and also receive a list of school suggestions that best suit your profile-

Hey Raunaq98,

Your profile seems great.

You have a great GMAT and GPA and your college brand being one of the top 10 colleges in India certainly will add value to your application. It shows that you have been committed towards excellence since the start, and this will be an asset to your applications. Be sure to highlight this.
Your score shall allow you to target all the top business schools for their Business Analytics programs.

Apart from academics AdComs are generally looking for applicants with holistic profiles. So any information on your extracurricular activities and interests outside your academic profile would help to evaluate your application better.
Any experience leading clubs, taking parts in fest or events, participation in sports or any volunteering experience and how you took the initiative in these activities, how you created value and made impacts would help to showcase a more holistically developed application. This would also highlight your ability to maintain a proper balance between your scholastic achievements and your all round development.

Coming to your work experience, the two internships I would assume are during your undergraduate study and you can showcase how you took them up in an effort to apply your knowledge practically. Apart from that you can highlight projects undertaken, initiatives taken, how you went above and beyond the role and created value for the firm either in the current job role or in your internships, to showcase your expertise and skills.

Most of the schools you are targeting Duke, McGill, UBC, Rotman, HEC Montreal and John Hopkins fall in the Competitive category while USC falls in the Dream Category

With your profile you have a 40-50% chance of acceptance for the Dream schools and 60-70% chance of acceptance for the Competitive, make sure you focus on building a strong application that highlights your choices and why you did what you did, so that you can stand out amongst peers with equally great profiles.

A good application has an upto 30% chance of influencing your chances of getting admitted by having well prepared essays that showcase what makes you different, highlight your journey and what makes you a good addition to the program.

Hence, if you’re planning to apply for the 2021 intake, you can check our flagship service- All-In-One Solution to see how we could assist you in preparing a polished application and highlighting your strengths so that you have a shot at these and even better schools.

Hey sritamda,

Your academic background is pretty strong. You have a good GPA which reflects your academic prowess. Even your media UG background also provides a bit of an edge to your profile as there are not a lot of applicants from Mass media.

You have a pretty decent work experience as well. Here you can talk about the roles you took, the projects you led, the takeaways you had from the internships and how working in those roles pushed you to pursue a management degree.

Your entrepreneurial experience strengthens your profile as it shows a go-getter attitude, self-learning capabilities and drive (among other things), if properly explained it will be a good differentiating point for your application.

Your extracurricular would also be an add-on as it showcases your proactive attitude and how you have gone above and beyond to assume roles and create substantial impact through them. The high school activities don’t matter much but you can talk about your experience of leading the undergrad media festival. That would be an interesting point to talk about.

Now coming onto the program recommendation, as per your post-grad goals, there are two programs that would be suitable for you- MIM and MSE Marketing.
MSE Marketing is a specialized program on marketing that would give you an in-depth understanding and know-how of the marketing industry while MIM is a general management program and would give you an understanding of the breadth of the management.
As you want to come back to the entrepreneurship role, MIM would be the most suitable fit for you and if marketing is where your heart lies, you can always take up a specialization in marketing in the MIM program.

When it comes to targeting schools it is always good to target a mixed bunch of schools in the dream, competitive and safe category. Below is a list of the schools that you can target :

Dream : LBS, INSEAD, HEC, St. Gallen
Competitive : Trinity college, LSE, WHU, Cass Business School, Bocconi
Safe : University of Bath, Lancaster, Kedge Business school, Neoma Business School.

Further, if you are looking for an expert touch on your application and increase your chances of winning an admit into your target school, you can check our flagship service All-In-One Solution through the link given below to gain insights into our working of the essay editing process.

Hey everyone!, I am late to post to this forum but here are my stats. I plan to take the GMAT in mid-December and apply second round to all my targets shortly after. Would love to chat!

Hey Tacobellvampire,

A proper evaluation requires an understanding of your extracurricular, Academics and professional exploits. We will need details on the same to give you a comprehensive evaluation. I would suggest you to send us over the respective data for the same at info@mim-essay.com so we can better evaluate your profile.

Looking at the details you have provided here, I would say that you have a decent profile.

Starting off with your academic background, You have a pretty decent GPA. The brand of your college would also matter since the top schools generally pick candidates from the top ten schools of the applicant’s country. Hence, you will be competing against applicants from the top schools of your country. Thus, a strong application highlighting your strengths would help differentiate you from your peers.

For the GMAT exam you should target a score of 710 and above, since the schools you are targeting like HEC and St. Gallen require a score of 700+ and getting a higher score displays your strong academic capabilities.

You have two internships in the field of finance, something that business schools definitely appreciate. Here you can highlight your strengths by talking about the kind of projects you undertook, the kind of activities you partook in and how you created a positive impact by being a part of the company. Properly highlighting these could help strengthen your application to the Masters in finance programs.

You haven’t mentioned any details about your extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities are really important as they showcase that you have a holistically developed profile and a proactive attitude.
Since you are applying for Round 2, which starts in January, you have time to take up activities or volunteering experiences during this period which could help bolster this aspect of your profile.

Coming on to the schools that you have mentioned. The schools you have mentioned fall into the dream category and have an acceptance rate of 30-40%. A good approach in this scenario would be to target a mix of schools that fall into upper competitive or dream schools, competitive and safe categories. To help you better below is the lit for the same :

Dream : HEC, St. Gallen, Bacconi, Imperial, INSEAD, Duke, Fordham, LBS
Competitive : ESSEC, ESADE, FSFM, UCD, Cox, University of Florida, Northeastern University
Safe : University of Bath, Lancaster University, Cranfield, George Mason, Thunderbird, Hult

You would have a 40-50% chance of getting the admit from the schools in the dream category and a 60-70% chance from the schools in the competitive category. To increase your chances of getting admitted at these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application to back your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers and how you are a great value addition to the school.

Since you are planning for the 2021 intake and are giving your GMAT in December, you should start preparing your applications to these schools from November since each application takes 10-15 days to perfect, that way as soon as you get your GMAT you can apply to the schools

Hence, you can check our flagship service- All-In-One Solution to see how we could assist you in preparing a polished application and highlighting your strengths so that you have a shot at these and even better schools.

Your GPA of 3/4 is pretty good. Given your core interest in management, majoring with a bachelor in commerce reflects your passion to build a strong foundation in management studies.

Hence, your work experience in a Big 4 is going to strengthen your profile by enabling you to highlight the quality of your work, the positive impact you created, and how you went above and beyond and bloomed in the role.

Moreover, Your GMAT/GRE score of 720 showcases your academic prowess and opens the doors to most of the top schools.

Another significant aspect that schools focus is on extracurricular activities. So you would be required to elucidate your pro activeness in extracurricular and other initiatives. Hey anum01200,

You seem to have a decent profile.

You haven’t mentioned a lot of details, but I am glad to see that you seem to have a holistically developed profile.

Starting off with your academic background, even though the Undergraduate GPA is a bit on the lower end, it wouldn’t really hinder the chances of your admission to the desired program. Only the recent GPA is what matters while crafting the application, and a 3.05 GPA is quite decent in its own and showcases your growth and potential in the academic front.

You haven’t mentioned any details on the work experience, but 10 years worth of experience showcases that you have an extensive and in-depth knowledge of your field and you’d be able to highlight your growth over the years by talking about the major roles, events and projects of your career.

You have a fair share of certifications and training in your repertoire as well which displays a proactive attitude on your end that has resulted in a holistic development of your personality and skills.

Another important aspect that the admission committee focuses on is the extra-curricular activities. Extracurricular are incredibly important to showcase a holistically developed profile and personality and to display an efficient use of your theoretical knowledge and how you use it in real-life situations to bring out a positive impact. If you do not have any such activities in your repertoire, I would suggest you to take up volunteering activities, extra certifications in the domain you wish to take admission in or get associated with a club or organization where you can get the opportunity to manage and handle teams and highlight your leadership skills and abilities.

As you haven’t mentioned the program, area or any other detail about the Master’s program you wish to pursue, I would recommend you to mail your detailed profile to the email address mentioned below to get a comprehensive evaluation of your profile and your chances of acceptance into the program as well as top universities.

Hope this helped!
