I have failed 5 times before finally reaching 700 score, For many this maybe an OK score but to me its my crown. This has been an emotional journey and for those who are struggling to reach their dream score you will reach it. Never give up.
2018, this was the first year I thought of giving GMAT, like everyone here I read dozen articles, In which dozen people said, give one official mock test to get to know baseline. So naturally I thought ok lets give the test and I got 590 on my first mock with Q49 and V21.
I checked with club and got to know that this is a decent start, then i just read manhattan 5th edition CR and SC for a week and gave another mock got 640.
Mistake No 1:- Then I checked how long it would take for a person to reach 700 from 640. the experts say 70 hours will get you there.
Biggest mistake of my life is to trust these lines, all the big companies use these very lines "N hours of our course and X marks improvement, GUARANTEE" dont fall for it
Dont fall in trap, Nobody can gauge how long it will take but yourself
2018,
Egmat prep only completed scholaranium 50% believed the words 70 hours, prepared for 1 month and gave the actual test. Got 640.
came back to gmatclub like a cry baby , and read peoples debriefs and saw posts where people just gave after 15 days because they were not used to test environment and how the other aspects screwed their score and how giving test have 15 days helped them with score jumping by 40-50 points.
Mistake no 2:- with no additional effort and belief that even my case is the same, I went and wrote the test again only to get 640 again.
2019,
Egmat prep again, this time I did 80% of scholaranium and 100% of video lessons, they were kind enough to give some discount. this time My verbal moved from V25 to V32 during prep phase and thought I am ready
Dday, I ended up getting Q49 V30 and 640 again, although verbal improved by few points it didnt have any impact on overall score.
same thing again as 2018, like crybaby i came to gmatclub read that things like this happen, so gave the test again after 15 days, this time same score Q49 V29 640.
Mistake 3:-Spent lot of time on video lectures and did not focus much on lot of practice and reviewing, there is more learning from mistakes than from the course
2020,
Egmat again, this time full tests, now one may call me a fool to buy same test series again and again, but I believe its all about how i am using the resources, believe me, whatever may be the prep course you choose, it has got it all. its all about how much of it you are using.
This time I actually completed all their courses and did everything as being told, I spent my time thoroughly on scholarnium and learnt from my mistakes.
I gave first scholaranium test and got 690. with V34.
My SC was good, my CR was ok. I worked on CR and my Score moved to V35, then i worked on both SC and CR, my score moved to V36, then I gave bursts of mixed tests with all types of questions, my score moved from V36 to V39 and only scholaranium mock 5 i got 720.
And then finally i gave my prep test 1 and got Q50 V39 with 730. and I knew I was ready.
D day. I couldnt sleep the previous night, dogs were barking all night, woke up at 6am and traveled 3 hours to exam center, had my breakfast and thoroughly got screwed.
In the heat of failure, I purchased
manhattan prep thinking
Egmat wasnt working for me, but I was doing good in Manhattan aswell, Infact quant I was finishing in 30 mins, Egmats Quant is tougher than actual gmat. anyway the score on Manhattan was 710 aswell.
In next 3 weeks, I sticked with
OG and did not prepare much. gave the exam calm, got Q49 V37 700.
Gmat online quant was unusually difficult. Verbal was relatively same.
I will post another experience about GMAT ONLINE and what needs to be taken care of.
Kudos to
Egmat, Manhattan, GmatClub, Souvik, BB, Rich and all other wonderful people out there. In the end It what you make out of the resources and not just the resource that helps you reach the target.
