A. that all of the thousands of languages spoken by the worlds five billion people can be traced
B. that the worlds five billion people speak thousands of languages of which all can be traced
"of which" sounds awkward here.
C. the worlds five billion people speak thousands of languages which are all traceable

D. all of the thousands of languages spoken by the worlds five billion people to be traceable
"to be traceable" is again Awkward and changes the meaning
E. the ability to trace all of the thousands of languages that are spoken by the worlds five billion people
Awkward and changes the meaning.

Yep OA is A

Was stuck between A and B but I wasnt sure if 'of which' sounding awkward was reason enough to avoid this answer!

Thanks Guys!

Sorry my mistake in posting the question. The underlined portion includes 'that', so C would be wrong because the idiomatic phrase is contend that....

A is good.

C is wrong because "that" is missing.
Without "that" it is ambigous.
A number of linguists contend the worlds five billion people
--> which means.. contend that "worlds five billion people"
but actually "contending" that "languages spoken by worls five billion people can be traced"
