Recalibrate your GMAT target to be 705+, given your weak GPA. 655 won't help your case. Scores in X and XII are irrelevant for internal MBA programs. Even after the recommended GMAT score, your narratives will be crucial. Tackle the weak GPA in your optional essay without offering excuses.

Re EU schools, do not underestimate the need for knowledge of the local language, even if the MBA is taught in English, unless, of course, you intend to return home.

Hi everyone!
I have around 4.5yrs of work ex with a CFA L1 certification.
My Class Xth and XIIth grades were extremely good (above 95% and 93% respectively)
However, my grad CGPA was 6.14 with a few backlogs. This is a negative spot on my profile.
I’m targeting top B-schools in UK and Europe for my MBA.
I would really appreciate some guidance as to what my chances are given I get a good/decent GMAT score (655+).
Also, what all can I do to bridge the gap caused by my college GPA and backlogs?

Any help/guidance would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Depending on your field of study, try for some internships abroad. That's the only way to acquire some level of international experience while studying for UG. If you look hard, you will find plenty.

How does one get 'international experience' required for top b-schools, while studying bachelors degree in India?
Cant go for semester abroad, need something that can be done while staying in the country.

You could be a great atypical candidate for MBA schools in India. It's not often that a TV journalist from anywhere applies to their program. As the initial step, you should study the class profiles on the school portals. Do not try to conform to that profile - your uniqueness is key. You do not need Indian experience to study in India. What you do need are convincing answers to multiple questions that will go into the essay narratives. Study those essay topics and introspect deeply. Work on your GMAT score too. You have a good runway in front of you to target the applications. Best wishes.

Hi guys, I'm looking to apply for a few MBA schools in India. I'm currently a TV journalist in Canada and I have a very unconventional profile. I just gave my first GMAT mock this week and the results seemed promising enough to build upon. How can I learn about molding my profile for top b schools? What are they looking for? Is my profile going to hurt me, and what can I do to compensate? I don't have any Indian experience and I'm targeting the ISB PGP-YL program. I'm 25 rn with about 1 year of professional TV experience and then multiple projects with American publishers and then a few internships with Indian national dailies like the Tribune and the Indian Express.

I'm just getting started in terms of looking into an MBA. The idea excites me but I'm just not sure how to pursue it.

You can keep aside your X / XII scores - they are irrelevant, at least for all international MBA programs. Your M.Tech score plus a strong GMAT score should help you easily offset any concerns from the weak UG GPA. You can always explain the UG GPA debacle in the optional essay. If it gives you comfort, Indian GPAs do not impact the international school rankings. Of course, that doesn't mean that they will ignore it.

Aim for a GFE score of 705+. Since you are yet to work on this, you are going to do injustice to your candidacy by taking a long time for this. Ideally, you should have targeted R1 in Sep 2025 (i.e., now). Can you catch R2? Only you will know. If you end up applying in R1 2026 for the fall intake of 2027, you would be a candidate with 8+ years of WE, which is further away from the sweet spot (5-6 yrs) of most international schools. Hence, R2 applications in Jan 2026 for the Sep 2026 start (with 7+ years of WE) is an important strategy for you to consider.

Stats are just one element of your candidacy. What matters more is your profile, your achievements, your motivations for an MBA, your goals post-MBA, your recommendation letters, your deep research and understanding about the school you apply to, and more.

Happy to speak if you wish to.
whatever school you apply to, and more.

1 paper published with Springer
Education:
X (CBSE): 8.6 CGPA
XII: 67%
B.Tech : 67.5%
M.Tech (IIT): 8.3/10 CGPA

Previously made YouTube videos on stock trends
Assistant Head – Training & Placement Cell
Side Hustle / Entrepreneurship: Built and scaled webapp (100+ users in 60 days);
Built internal company AI tool for increasing efficiency
❓ My Core Question:
Given my 67% in B.Tech and XII, will my academic profile hinder chances at top B-schools like ISB, IIMA/B/C, INSEAD, or M7 (Kellogg, Wharton, MIT Sloan, etc.)?
I’ve heard mixed things about undergrad cutoffs—does strong M.Tech from IIT + patents + impact-heavy work balance this out?
Any advice on how to best position this academically weaker segment?
If yes, How much GMAT score needed, and any other extra things need to upgrade
Or should I leave this dream, that also please tell.

It doesn't depend on your score only. As you have a diverse background already. So I believe you can get a college of your dream.

I have worked with a guy with 13 yr work ex from LBS with very average academics and very strong work ex and amazing mba essays.

Worrying without gmat score at this point of time does not make sense. Get a good score, apply to top b school and see what happens

Given that you are India-based, how do you propose to attend an EMBA at any school outside of India? EMBA formats involve having periodic in-person classes on campus, for which you will have to fly regularly. Am I missing something in your plans?
