Hi Naina

You have a pretty good academic and professional profile there. If you can achieve 720 on the GMAT, will be competitive for NTU. Your current profile (ASIC engineer) is a bit technical though, so try and also highlight examples of your leadership and state a clear need for an MBA. Your courses on BTM definitely help there. On the ECA side, try and show achievements beyond organizing events and festivals, though you could include these too. The NGO work and theatre part will thus be more important. Overall, you've done very well for yourself thus far, now focus on cracking the GMAT too. You have time on your side (if not applying to other schools), as the NTU application will open only in October.

Request somebody well versed with NTU admission process to evaluate my profile. Still quite new to NTU admission process so not sure if I am a right fit for this school. I will share a brief about my profile. Please let me know if any other detail required.

GMAT - 700 (Q50, V34, AWA-5, IR-8). Work ex – 52 months as on date. Will have 57.5 months of work –ex as on 31st March, 2019.

Grad & Work Ex:
I have done my graduation in Fashion Technology from National Institute of Fashion Technology. My college is regarded as the best fashion college in the country and is among the top 3 colleges in Asia. Right now I am working with the biggest apparel organization in the country. I have reached middle management role in a very short duration. Currently I head pan India operations of my brand.

Profile:
Qualitatively I have a strong profile. I have worked hard to build my profile over the last few years. I am national level athlete and a national level quiz medalist. I have led teams during my college days and have also worked for couple of spiritual and non-for-profit organizations in the past.

Reasons for MBA:
Though I have got good success in the initial years of my career, a graduate degree won't be sufficient to take me to senior level roles in future. There are certain areas in the field of strategy and finance where I feel I am still not equipped enough to handle things completely on my own. An MBA at this stage will also help in making my profile much stronger. A master’s degree will make me financially more stable.

Post MBA plans:
Post MBA I want to work in roles of Brand Management with specialization in the fields of Strategy and Marketing. I am open to industries outside the fashion industry though I wouldn't mind coming back to this industry.

Dilemma:

Under the given geopolitical situation, will it be advisable for Indian candidates to apply to Singapore schools? Not too aware about job scenario in Singapore for international candidates.

I'm targeting colleges within top 30.

I am not in a position where I can spend more than 100K SD. So scholarship will be a deal breaker for me to join any college. Is getting a scholarship a possibility with this profile?

Would anybody like to have a go at analyzing my profile? Below are the details:

Age: 26
Class X: 87%
Class XII: 82%
CGPA: 7.19 (VIT University, B.Tech in Computer Engineering though there are a fair share of backlogs which I successfully cleared within the 4 years)
Best GMAT Score: 710 (Q47 V40 IR 7 AWA 5)

Work Experience: 5.5 years by March 2019 - All in Marketing. The last 4 years of those has been in a pan-Indian Fintech startup, with the last 1.5 years in a Managerial role.

Extracurricular: Ran a Culture Critic portal during my college days, Moderator of an aviation community since 2009, volunteered with Greenpeace India for 6 months in 2017.

Other: Completed a course with Coursera on Engagement & Nurture Marketing

Can you help me evaluate my profile and tell me if have some chances to get admitted at NTU.

I'm 25, Indian, Male.

12th - 48% (Science - Physics, Chem, Math, CS)

I know my academics have been poor.

Total WE - 3+ Years
Headed the business development wing for my family business (logistics company which was founded the very same year I graduated) staright out of college for 1.5 years post which i went on to purse a Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Marketing and work as an intern with one of the leading digital marketing agency in the country during this time. I am currently working in a digital agency for last 2 years consulting and handling digital marketing for leading brands in India. I have worked with clients ranging across various industry verticals such as healthcare, Technology, Education, QSR and fitness.

I have been won the employee of the month for about 3 times in the last 2 years. Also, won awards at annual events of the company as recognition my performance.

Extra-circular.

National gold medalist - Karate - 2010
National Sliver and bronze - 2011 and 2012
I also was the president of the student government body for 3 years in school.

Thanks for your query.

As already suggested, your academic background is a red flag; however, rather than worrying about the same now, it is time to focus on the things that can be controlled; of course, you must, in the Optional Essay, address your low academic scores, without making an excuse for them; rather, focus on how you have grown as an individual, ever since, and achieved a good GMAT score; focus on your learnings from the episode.

Your achievements on the extra-curricular front will definitely add value to your case, as will your diverse client-handling exposure, and the entrepreneurial experience.

Frankly, how well you connect the dots in your story through the essays you craft, will hold the key. Spend enough time deliberating on how you want to express your strengths and articulate the past; of course, put forth a set of career goals, wherein your goals align with your existing experience.

We do hope you are targetting programs other than NTU, as well!

Hi Shefali,

While your work experience is very good and will help you in building a strong application, your GMAT score is quite low. I am going to strongly recommend a retake and try to bring it up to a 690-700 atleast.
If you put in some serious effort for the next one month, you can still meet R1 deadline.

(b) 5 years (till date) with an Indian Public Sector Bank - working in several profiles. In the process, I have acquired certain certifications from Indian Institute of Banking and Finance -

(b) CAIIB (First Class) - December, 2015
(c) Certificate Course in Foreign Exchange - January, 2017

After my MBA, I would like to work in the Finance domain. I could also look at Consulting profiles, but Finance would be my first choice.

Extra-curricular and other achievements -
I do not have much extra curricular activities -Was adjudged the “Best Table Topic Speaker” at Toastmasters International during my stint at TCS, ranked third in my M Tech course, was an associate editor of my college magazine, won a certificate at an in-house L&D and CTO initiative at TCS.

I have mediocre academic grades so far and do not have much leadership roles to write about. Should I do CFA level1 before I apply to B in 2020 ?
