And is A as we can calculate total distance proportion in each side based on percentage of distance given but details given in B are not sufficient to calculate distance or ratio

One person travels from X to Y and then from Y to X. He takes different routes back and forth. It took him 36 miles per hour to move from X to Y, and it took him 48 miles per hour to come from Y to X. What was the average speed of his entire travel?

(1) The distance of the return trip was 24% of the entire travel distance.
(2) The distance of the return trip is 100 miles.

\(Average Speed = \frac{Total Distance }{ Total Time}\)

Statement 1: The distance of the return trip was 24% of the entire travel distance.

Let total Distance = D
Return trip distance = 0.24 D
Forward Trip distance = 0.66 D

i.e. Average speed = D / [(0.66D/36) + (0.24D/48)], We het a unique value of Average Speed hence

SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: The distance of the return trip is 100 miles

Distance of forward trip is unknown hence

NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer: Option A

GMATinsight: why the forward trip distance = 0.66D? I think it must be 0.76D. Am I wrong? Pls correct me.

Statement 1. Provides information to calculate distance ratio and it can help in making equation to calculate
While statement 2 doesn't provide any info or establish any relationship b/w time distance or speed
