I don't think you need to tie it to business management. I think Cambridge adcoms want to see how you think (given the choice is the inspiration essay or 24hrs). I wrote my insipiration essay about something completley random, personal and unrelated to business. Hope this helps :)
Thanks for your thoughts! I arrived at the same conclusion. I tackled this one in a free-writing style. I think it became more of a prose-style essay than a determined MBA essay. Let's see if the move was right or wrong.

Are you interviewing on campus?

BTW, JBS R2 application sent. :-D

Good luck with your app! I had my interview in my home town as they were here for information event. So still waiting. Cambridge will not release any decisions until the Campus interviews at the end of this month are also done.

Hello again!
Question to greenoak / buffdaddy or anyone else who has done the Oxford interviews:

Should we expect quite a detail question on essay 2? I have prepared the Why MBA/Why Oxford type questions but just wondering if there is any further prep I should be doing. Please let me know soon! My interview is coming up in 5 days and it'll be over the phone so it's always going to be a tad bit harder that way too :)

Thank you!

JBS applicants,

anyone encountered problems whilst creating referee references in the online system?

System says: could not create a record

*Edited: Using Firefox solves the issue... Previously I used IE.*

Hello Salisaa, I had my interview on friday, it was an in-person interview with an adcom member at an info-session. It lasted 45 minutes and most of them were typical questions. They did dig deep into my goals especially long term, but as long as you know why you want to do what you have stated you should be fine. For me, there weren't any questions on my 2nd essay, but I guess it depends..

The wait begins now..

Cheers

Hi Salisaaa,

Without knowing what your essay 2 is about, all I can say is make sure you maintain a consistent picture of you that you presented in your essays. They got you this far! Also make sure you know your previous and target industries and can hold an intellectual conversation about these industries.

Goodluck for the interview.

Anyone else having trouble with Cambridge's application? I keep getting an error message telling me that I haven't entered any information for the "Date you left this company" in the "Work Experience" section. But I've already filled this in, and did so using the requested format. Problem is, I can't submit the application until this field is "completed"!

Did anyone else run into this problem?

I know JBS R2 deadline hasn't even passed yet, but reading the old threads with people nervous and excited about the results doesn't really help. It makes me just wish for time to pass faster. Any decision would be better than just waiting...and waiting... and waiting! Also, I could not apply to Saïd before the January deadline, so I have to wait even longer for that one!

I've been admitted to Hult in Boston. For my career plans it seems like a really good fit, and I think I would be happy there. However, the prestige and network of Cambridge and Oxford are alluring, and I decided to pay the deposit to Hult but wait with making the final decision. Argh... where's the time machine when I need one? :)

Hey Salisaaa, thanks for the reply and the link, definitely helpful. I understand it's a personal decision and sometimes it's the soft skills that make the difference, like you mentioned below. I had taken a small hiatus from this forum because I was preparing for an interview for ISB and then waiting for the results.

Happy/sad to say I've been waitlisted for it ! I hope they convert it to an admit, but oh well until then it's back to oxbridge apps.

Cheers!

Thanks greenaok for your insight on the interviews. On your note about Oxford vs. Cambridge - I am also applying to JBS and finalizing application. Do many people apply to both schools? I have been considering pros & cons of both (and slightly leaning towards Oxford right now) and am hoping that by applying to both will not do me disfavour :? Any further thoughts on how I can make sure that applying to both does not work against me? Thanks again :)

Hi Salisaaa,

Can you put up the pros/cons of Oxford vs. Cambridge for everybody's benefit if you don't mind?

TIA,
fmb

Sorry for the long silence. Was swamped at work. Here is a good thread about Oxford vs. Cambridge:
separating-oxford-from-cambridge-75929.html

A little difficult for me to comment personally right now because I am in the land of undecided. Going by facts, there isn't a huge amount of difference. Cambridge may have the edge on the hi-tech entrepreneurship and Oxford on social entrepreneurship. It really depends what your post MBA goal is. Personally, I am looking for a well-rounded general management course and so between both schools, it comes down to feelings - more than facts - i.e. the experience in dealing with the people at the school (adcom, alum, etc). What I like about both of them is that they seem to be more interested in you as a person more than perhaps some other places (hence the Oxford Essay 2 and Cambridge Essay 3) - Cambridge perhaps, with its small class size (and town itself) has more of a 'personal touch'. I've just had a chance to talk more with Cambridge team (admissions + faculty) and felt really good about its people. The interview experience (I had an early one in my home town) was also good - (though I felt a little unprepared and didn't feel I did as well as I could - as it was a very sudden arrangement).

I'm sorry if this may not be entirely helpful or scientific weighing....but sometimes your gut instinct also works better than you think :)

Any final decisions for first-rounders yet?

By the way, those who applied to Judge, did the application status change from "submitted" to something else before you got the interview decision / ding?

Any clubbers been to the Oxford open day ? Please share your experience if you have.

I was there for the open day. Very impressed with the presentations and the school. Got a chance to talk and meet some of the students, which was very pleasant. They all seem to be a smart group and I'd enjoy being in such an environment as a student.

It also seems they're much more focused on entrepreneurship and non profit work more so than the other major European schools.

I also visited INSEAD during the same week, and I think Oxford has a much nicer campus. The city is livelier as well. Obviously INSEAD has a better reputation in terms of ranking and recruitment, but I think everyone should visit all the schools they're interested in before making a decision to matriculate, because I truly believe that an MBA is only as good as what you can get out of it...and since not everyone has the same goals, then there's no real clear cut "better" school.

Before I visited, I had INSEAD as a clear cut number 1 school for me. However, after my visit, I have to say it's now an even toss up between INSEAD and Oxford because there are definitely some advantages of Oxford that I have not considered before and might be a better personal fit for me than other programs. So like I said, definitely try to understand what you're looking for in an MBA program and assess each individual program based on fit and how they can help you achieve your goals, rather than looking at the generic rankings.

Anyways, I stayed at the Royal Oxford Hotel, which is literally across the street from the business school and super convenient. The bus station is also right there, as well as the train station. So it's very convenient to get to anywhere (London, Heathrow airport, etc.) from the school.

Good luck humblewinner and DrSatisfaction. If my R1s don't convert, I might apply to Oxford as well. However, humblewinner, are you aware of the visa issues in UK? I know LBS grads qualify for the work visa automatically but I dont know how difficult is it for Oxford grads. Let me know if you know more on the subject.

Also, if you guys dont mind sharing, can you tell if you picked a single event for Essay2 or it can be 2-3 events related to one theme? How did you cover up describing your leadership qualities etc - did you put it all in Essay1 only or did you weave your professional achievements + insights into the 2nd essay as well?

Btw, how does Oxford look upon career switchers?
