I'm sure these numbers are old and you can count on a lesser acceptance rate. Still, it should give you confidence, as I doubt that much has changed - even with a record recruiting season.

You are right, I misread the numbers and 2/3 of interviewed applicants were not admitted (based on these numbres). 75% OF INTERVIEWED APPLICANTS WERE ADMITTED IN THIS SAMPLE YEAR. How did I come to that? Look at the numbers:
-approx 800 applicants total
-approx 400 accepted/400 dinged
-65% of all candidates interviewed
-100% of all successful candidates interviewed

So... 800 people applied, 535 interviewed, 400 were accepted.
Then, 400/535 = about 75%.
75% of interviewed applicants were accepted.

Yes, yes, the numbers are certainly different this year. But I would wager not so different as you might think. In any case, this should put your mind to rest that the adcom doesn't have you slated for the cutting board. If you present your case well during your interview I can't see how you would be dinged. Look forward to meeting you at SBS.

48% of all applicants accepted sounds awfully high to me. I remember seeing quite some different stats... don't have the time to dig them up though. At least I thought Judge admittance rates were somewhere in the 20-plus range and Saïd cannot be that far behind, right? Their initial requirements are pretty much the same, too.

what are people's views on telephonic v/s face to face?
I've done three telephonic interviews so far and I must say I prefer face to face. Haven't done a single b-school face to face interview sofar, but obviously other interviews during the course of my life. :) With telephones you never know if the connection is bad, or if they put you on speaker and there are other people in the room. Also, a speaker phone can screw up the connection, too. It's really difficult to conduct an interview when you hear yourself speak with half a second's time lag - it's very confusing.

Also, face to face you get to really market yourself as a pleasant and ambitious person - the way you shake hands, smile, appear confident, and sit in your chair. If you're good with people it's probably easier to make contact with the adcom that way than by telephone.

That said, telephonic interviews are made and people do get admitted. :)

Hi Anna, you seem to be a strong proponent for in-person interviews and yet have taken 3 telephonic interviews! Can you pls share your experiences? Also if you don't mind, where have you got an admit from?

Oh, I was merely referring to those who did get admitted to Cambridge, even with the school strongly urging candidates to come to the school for interview.

The interviews I had were all for US-based schools and they had no problem with conducting a telephonic interview. I simply had not the time to fly overseas for an interview. However, I will go to both Oxford and Cambridge for face-to-face interviews, and they will be my first. Perhaps I end up changing my mind with new experience on F2F interviews?

Riship, I actually do have a bit more information. From last years' Oxbridge thread at GmatClub, there are 30 pages of messages. One applicant (named buffdaddy) who went to the Open Day last year at SBS says quote:

"... Also interesting they said that they interview about 60% of applicants and "about the same" percentage get an admit from the interviewed applicants. So I guess an admit % of 36% roughly. "

But guys, please don't lose any sleep over these numbers. Prepare well, do a face-to-face if possible, and go into the room with confidence. Good luck.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Let me tell you, life at SBS in Feb/March is hard. They really work you hard here.

Congratulations to ALL admits and interviewees. If you are on campus and want to meet up for coffee (schedule permitting), do send me a PM.

There has been a LOT of speculation about this year's intake, selectivity, yield etc.
Here are a few stats on this year's class.

Class size: 240
The class consists of students from 48 countries
Male/Female population is 70% male and 30% female
The average GMAT score is 685
The average age of the class is 29
The average number of years work experience is 6 years
The number of total applications last year was circa 1300
Yield: Not Available

buffdaddy, thnx alwyz for insightful inputs!
i hope this thread gets closer to LBS and one year, takes over in the # of posts and in the camaraderie! :-)
also that many more clubbers make it IN... for the really SBS obsessed ones (and anxiously awaiting final shortlisting), check out the movies "murders in oxford" and "an education" to keep the fire burning!!

I am planning to travel for SBS interview to Oxford and need some inputs on the visa process and logistics.

Does anyone have experience of how to get UK visa (which visa ?) from USA and how much time does it take ?

Also if you are travelling to SBS does SBS help with arranging the logistics for few days of travel for interview.

Any help will be apprecited.

I don't know about visa procedures, but I guess you have to make the travel arrangements yourself. At least they explicitly state that no travel reimbursement is possible. Just book a flight and a hotel on the internet. There's one medium-priced opposite of the business school, called Royal Oxford.

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum although I've been following it for a while.
I'll be going to the UK for inteviews at Cambridge and Oxford on the first week of March. If anyone will also be there, I'd love to meet up.

i stayed there when i went to visit the campus and interview. it's absolutely the most convenient place to stay at. literally across the street from the school and train station from london.

if you're flying into heathrow, you should bus over to the school. it's really quick and convenient. and the bus station is also less than a 5 minute walk from the school and hotel.

Really? I thought I would take the train from Heathrow. Is there a direct connection from the airport and is it faster than by train? I did find a direct, convenient bus connection between Oxford and Cambridge.

And thanks for the positive hotel review!

Thanks DrSatisfaction

Since I will be flying from USA, any idea how I can book the hotel in advance.

Thanks

How about using Google? ;) In case you're very busy, look here: https://www.royaloxfordhotel.co.uk/

For other accommodation in Oxford, search https://www.tripadvisor.com where you can look at hotels on the Oxford city map, as well as individual reviews and ratings.
