DrSatisfaction, did you address the faculty (interviewer) by his/her first name or in a more formal manner (prof. last name, or sir etc.)? If you attended any of the classes, how are the current students addressing the faculty?

In Europe we do not address people in such a formal ways, specially academics

In France, Holland, and Germany we do, very often. Scandinavia absolutely not, it just causes an uncomfortable atmosphere. So I guess we just need to be sensitive about the situation. The mails I got from Cambridge so far were all addressed and signed on first name basis.

My profile is as follows:
PhD in biochemistry as of school start
2 years misc. corporate work exp + 8 years in research, mostly inflammation/cancer
GMAT 640
Okay GPA I guess (don't know the conversion rates), very good MSc thesis grade
very little time for community service due to research taking up my time
Worked 1 year abroad, fluent in several languages

Hi Folks,

I have an invite for the interview as well...and I will mostly opt for a telephonic interview.

My profile: ~6 years work ex in India and USA in operations/scm in industry as well as a large consulting firm across manufacturing, consumer products and retail sectors; undergrad in engineering from India and MS from a top 10 US tech school; GMAT 700/6.0; good extracurriculars in college, ok afterwards due to constant travel and relocation.

Good luck for the interviews/ other school results!

Any of the Oxford R2 applicants want to do a mutual mock-interview over skype? 'think it'd be good practice...
30mins each (+15mins feedback), in total: 1hr 30min session.
I'm in Japan time (GMT+9) and up for any of this Mon/Tue/Wed. PM to schedule and exchange info.

I've requested for an interview in Oxford on Feb 25. I will be in Cambridge the following day. Anyone around at that time in either city, and interested to meet up?

I've been invited for an interview with Oxford. Will do it in San Francisco Feb 26th, I think. My profile:

28 y.o. American Male, Sales, Masters degree in Africa, GMAT 750, GPA 3.78. Want to focus on entrepreneurship and int'l business. Very interested in Oxford for those reasons.

Good luck to those interviewing this month.

Hi! I'm new to this forum.

I have received an invitation to interview from Oxford. I was wondering if anybody's interview date had been confirmed. I have requested an interview in person either at New York or San Francisco and I am hoping that they'll confirm soon so that I can make travel arrangements.

Mine was confirmed earlier today. I requested for confirmation ASAP as I had to book flights only two weeks before the scheduled date.

what are people's views on telephonic v/s face to face?

ftf would generally be better and give an opportunity for a better interaction, however considering that Oxford interviews are very structured and timed to not more than 30 mins, will that really matter?

I read a couple of other forums and could find no particular trend...ppl who opted for telephonic interviews have also got an admit

I think this is something typical for Judge. Seems like a lot of promising applicants get dinged and thus it would appear it's very difficult to get in. The amount of applications recieived at the school keeps rising, but their ranking doesn't. I'm very curious about what kind of people they really are looking for - it's almost like they'd have a strategy of some kind.

what are people's views on telephonic v/s face to face?
I've done three telephonic interviews so far and I must say I prefer face to face. Haven't done a single b-school face to face interview sofar, but obviously other interviews during the course of my life. :) With telephones you never know if the connection is bad, or if they put you on speaker and there are other people in the room. Also, a speaker phone can screw up the connection, too. It's really difficult to conduct an interview when you hear yourself speak with half a second's time lag - it's very confusing.

Also, face to face you get to really market yourself as a pleasant and ambitious person - the way you shake hands, smile, appear confident, and sit in your chair. If you're good with people it's probably easier to make contact with the adcom that way than by telephone.

That said, telephonic interviews are made and people do get admitted. :)

2 questions...

1. does anyone know what the acceptance rate is for ppl who receive interviews at oxford?

2. does it make a difference if you don't get your first choice interview? I was hoping to be interviewed in either SF or NY but instead they took my 3rd choice and decided to do a phone interview. Is this b/c i'm lower down on the list of who they want or just b/c they didn't have any room by the time they responded to me?

kma, interview slots are allotted on a first-come-first basis only and as far as I know, there's no ranking otherwise. So I guess someone else opted for your prefered date before you. And the acceptance rate after interview is close to 50% at oxford- so there's a good chance.

thanks riship... too bad about the 50%, i was hoping there was a better chance than that since i figured they would only interview ppl who they were really interested in. Does anyone know the acceptance rate in general at SBS? I was unable to find aany statistics.

Kma, You definitely shouldn't read too much into your interview schedule. Who knows why they gave you your third choice? But it was likely a scheduling thing. And even over the phone you will be taking up someone's time...

In any case, they chose you over a bunch of really qualified candidates so you should be assured that a good interview will only increase your already decent chances of admission.
