Hey! I am based out of Dubai. How about a mock TBD on 27th?

That's an awesome idea and I'm sure there'll be more people willing to participate since I already got several messages.

So guys who are going to Dubai for interview pm me and I will set up a group in Facebook or whatever else so we can arrange mock TBD on evening of Feb 27th.

And hopefullythisyear, since you're local, choice of place for the mock TBD is up to you :)

It just seems like 30+ is automatic rejection. I am in the same boat (33 years old). Got ding from CBS, HBS, and Wharton.

I don't intend to sound contrary, but wanted to give at least a little hope to 30+ candidates: I'm 34 (will be 35 at time of matriculation) and have been invited to interview. Anecdotal evidence tells me that HBS, Wharton and GSB all shy away from 30+ candidates, but I hope to be the exception to that. I assumed I would get the ding from Wharton and am still stunned I was invited (I didn't even flinch when I saw the ding from HBS). I woke up this morning convinced that Wharton made a mistake and any minute now I will get an email telling me my interview has been cancelled.

I guess it just goes to show that there is no crystal ball that will tell us how this process will shake out.

Best of luck to everyone, especially my fellow old geezers. Perhaps we can form our own B-school inside the rest home. (Hearing aids for everyone! Midday naptime! All-you-can-eat Jello!)

Cheers,
Crucial

Congrats Crucial. This is really good to know. Hope you get admit after interview.

A quick question, did you justify on age factor anywhere in your main essay or optional essay? Or was it just normal essay?

Great news! DIFC, Costa Coffee, 7PM, 27th Feb.

Those not from Dubai, drop me a PM if you need directions. It's the same building where we have our actual TBDs.

Does Wharton give feedback for dinged applicants (like Yale does)?

No , it does not provide any feedback. I asked them yesterday. Not many schools do.

Okay, thanks. I think Tuck might, if I recall correctly (although I didn't apply there, some here have). And Yale SOM does. Maybe not many others.

To answer your question, I didn't specifically mention my age in my application, but I did tie in my professional experience (over 5 years practicing M&A law -- which definitely reveals I'm in my 30s) and how that experience, plus the Wharton MBA, would tie in to my goals. I also addressed why I felt now was the appropriate time for me to gain business education in order to advance my career, and how this would be a necessary step for me. Also, I made sure that my specific goals more closely align with a full-time program with expertise like Wharton's, since an obvious question would be "why not a part time/executive MBA?" So, I addressed age/timing in my application, but in an indirect way.

I'm looking to set up a mock interview if anyone is interested. I'm a reapplicant (denied after interview last year) and would love some extra practice this year. PM me if interested.

Hi everyone,

The first Wharton TBDs will be taking place next week. For candidates interested, we have 2 slots remaining for tomorrow: https://www.mbaadmissionsadvisors.com/re ... imulation/.

It's a cost effective way to prepare ideally for the actual TBD, and a major difference vs. the candidate-initiated mocks is the quality and objectivity of the feedback you'll receive.
Engr2012 published a list of Mock TBD options, and I'd recommend anyone to have a look at all available options (prices vary from $295 to $600+, so doing your research is important). See it here: calling-all-wharton-applicants-2016-intake-class-of-200055-600.html#p1642703
Good luck to everyone !

PS: here's what a past participant had to say about the mock TBD experience:
After the excitement to be invited to the TBD at Wharton settled down, I became super nervous. This was a format different from all other interviews that I had ever faced in my life. Researching on ways to prepare, I stumbled upon MBA Admissions Advisors. The website looked promising and I dropped an email. Vincent was prompt in his replies and assisted me in choosing the right packages to prepare given that I only had a time-frame of 72 hours before my TBD. The mock session in itself was stimulating and quite accurately reflected the actual TBD. I was surprised at the level of detail in which Vincent observed all of us and provided very specific feedback to help improve. I am really glad to be part of the next Wharton Class and Vincent definitely had a huge role to play in this.
